Can you recomend a good digital camera, compact with good quality hd video? reconditi
I am running windows 7 on my pc and looking for a digital camera with hd video, For taking good photos and for clear video for doing videos and for using on basic video editors like windows movie maker etc
the video quality must be good A used one thats cheapish off ebay is ok, and i dont mind if its a model from 3 or 4, or more years ago, as long as the quality is good, hd quality and clear, must work on windows 7 with a pc with 4gb of memory and a built in graphics card and pentium dual core cpu can you recommend one that meets the above requirements ? and will work with my pc. im currently upgrading to 4gb of memory, my desktop pc has a built in graphics card, If you have any recomendations, it would be greatly appreciated, thanks

I use a Canon SX700 which is quite tiny and fits in the pocket fine.
Though might need an extra battery as runs out after just a few hours though its pretty small. Also had a Nikon Coolpix L820 which was great but a bit bigger think they now have a model up though this might be found on other sites. This uses 4 aa battery's. |

I think you might struggle to edit HD using a Pentium based PC. You could try downloading some 1080p clips from the internet and see how you get on editing it.
i didnt know that it wouldnt be able to cope with hd ? id be disappointed if bought one to find out that playback is jerky |

Editing HD video is demanding, playback may be ok but editing could be very slow going. What model Pentium do you have?
I'd agree with Graham's advice, download some HD video clips and see what happens when you try to edit, assuming you have HD editing software. |

would it be ok at 720 ?
i didnt know that it wouldnt be able to cope with hd ? id be disappointed if bought one to find out that playback is jerky 1 Convert the footage to a intraframe format, Unlike mpeg compressed content there is complete data for every frame. This makes it easy to edit but the trade off is the files are extremely large. 2 Buy a video editing package that supports proxy editing. A separate low resolution copy of your HD clips is created. You edit these in the editor, when the project is finished, the final render substitutes the original HD clips. It will take a long time to render a long movie, but you can leave the computer to get on with the job. |

I was editing 720p HD video on my similar spec desktop and it was OK, I had an 3GHz E5700 with 4GB ram and a secondary hard drive for storage. I use Sony Movie studio 11 and it was OK.

This is quite a tricky one. First don't buy anything that uses AA batteries as they will always run out at the most inconvenient time.
I have spent days trying to get a Panasonic TZ compact camera, most are in need of repair and those that are not go for far too much. Canon and Nikon are expensive too but Sony, Olympus and Samsung are good quality and better value. Your local camera shop (if there still is one!) may have a trade in with at least a basic warranty. Bridge caneras seem better value but of course are more bulky to carry around. Also check if zoom works while video is recording as some do not. |

Any battery is likely to run out at the most inconvenient time!
At least with AA batteries you can nip to the nearest shop and buy some - you can't if it's a special battery. |
