In terms of top 10 music markets 2015 it's:

1.United States of America (1) All four albums have gone #1 so this one was easy.
2.Japan (3)
3.United Kingdom (1)
4.Germany (7)
5.France (6)
6.Australia (1) Again all four albums #1.
7.Canada (1) Again all four albums #1.
8.Brazil (3)
9.Italy (1)
10.Netherlands (5)

In brackets next to the market is the groups average album chart position across the four albums giving an indicator of how popular overall 1D have been in each of these markets. So obviously the lower the number the better. So... their top markets read like this:

1.United States of America
2.United Kingdom
3.Australia
4.Canada
5.Italy
6.Japan
7.Brazil
8.Netherlands
9.France
10.Germany

You really get a sense of 1D achievement when you compare with Take That and Westlife album average for these top 10 markets and their first four (both groups three albums and a greatest hits).

Have worked out averages from albums that charted out of the four and got an average showing popularity from first charting (top 100). Brazil album charts are unknown for both bands. Not all four albums charted however. So lower the score in brackets the better.

Take That

1.United Kingdom (1)
2.Italy (5) x3 charted
3.Netherlands (7)
4.Germany (9)
5.Australia (12) x3 charted
6.France (18) x2 charted
7.Japan (22)
8.Canada (31) x2 charted
9.United States of America (69) x1 charted
10.Brazil (Unknown)

Westlife

1.United Kingdom (1)
2.Netherlands (9)
3.Japan (19) x3 charted
4.Germany (22)
5.Australia (40) x3 charted
6.Italy (59) x2 charted
7.United States (none x4 charted)
8.France (none x4 charted)
9.Canada (none x4 charted)
10.Brazil (Unknown)

So when both these groups were at the same point as 1D and all four records taken into account they were averaging as a top forty mainly act. For 1D to be top ten in all ten territories on average really shows an achievement. Half of those top ten countries averaging at #1 also.

And once again I find it pointless to compare these markets from 20-25 years ago. Now you have iTunes, music is available everywhere, social media helps you gain worldwide appeal - before you had to promote yourself in every country that is mentioned if you wanted to be successful. Also, some albums just weren't released in some countries - for example, saying none of Westlife's albums didn't chart in US is completely wrong when in fact only their debut was released there.

The video is out so it is going to be interesting to see how much will it help them - especially in US since they plummeted to no. 27.

Still not that much I presume. It is also a pretty boring video, but thats just me.
