I think it be a good idea if members post any live sporting events on this channel so members don't miss anything.

Hope all find the thread useful.

Sounds like a reasonable idea I believe BT going to show some Champions league football on BT Showcase later in the tournament but I haven't heard of any other sports they are going to show on the channel.

"However, as mentioned earlier, BT will make some matches available for everyone to watch via a new, free-to-air channel on digital TV.
Called BT Sport Showcase, this channel will show a minimum of 12 UEFA Champions League matches and 14 UEFA Europa League matches and these will be available to anyone to watch for free."

I am assuming that there is some kind of UEFA regulation on showing some matches on subscription free TV, after spending a lot of money on the rights to European club football I can't imagine BT would give football away free willingly. British teams will get coverage.

"As well as football, BT says that nine Aviva Premiership rugby games will be broadcast on BT Sport Showcase and it hopes that other studio-based content will arrive on the channel.
Whether or not other content like MotoGP racing, WTA tennis and UFC mixed martial arts will also come to the channel remains to be seen - BT says that discussions with various rights holders need to be finalised before any more content can be greenlit for a free to air channel. "

It would be good if BT Sport used BT Showcase as a BT Sports News typed channel. Just like Sky Sports News they could use the channel to promote their pay channels but at the same time fill a gap that Sky Sports News left a few years back

Thoughts?

It's not really a channel though is it? It's just ticking a box for BT and aiming to get more subs in. Nothing more than that.

Kinda disagree. They are advertising as BT Sport has 6 channels (BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2, BT Sport Europe, BT Sport ESPN, BT Sport Showcase, BT Sport Ultra HD) so they acknowledge it as a channel.

Also by having it as BT Sport News they can use the channel to shamelessly promote their pay channels "... don't forget you can watch the match on BT Sport 1. For more details visit BTSport.com" etc

Yep, I think people are setting expectations way above what BT Showcase will actually be. It is pure and simply a promo channel and for the majority of the time it will be just running promotional loops.

I know. Some people are going to be very disappointed, as this channel is just there to tick that box for BT.

It's going to have endless loops of BT sport adverts and the odd game from these 26 that are being shown FTA

As for a sports news channel ..no chance. Way too expensive for BT as they are in the game of getting subs not pushing Freeview.

We have some right negative nellies in here

Firstly I have BT Sport so if it continues to run promotional loops so be it!

The point I was trying to make is I would more likely watch a Sports News channel and buy a product than watch a channel showing the same adverts over and over again.

BT have their own studio so it would probably just be presenter wages expense wise

Its about being realistic. Some people are thinking this is going to be a FTA sports channel, when it isn't.

BT is a subscription package and they will be using this to mainly fulfil the obligation that they have to offer the FTA matches and appears some suggestion that they could show some rugby matches free as well. I guess you could get some conference football matches on this as well, however it all depends on how BT can use it to get people to subscribe.

I am surprised they haven't thought about going the IPTV route on Freeview and having the direct option to "subscribe to BT Sport by pressing red". This of course would be more expensive than the packages they offer as a bundle but would enable the channel to serve a direct purpose.

It will be interesting to see what happens with it. I think the best you will get is re-runs of BT Sport events on the channel, with the odd bit of live action. However I would not be surprised to see it just run constant BT Sport loops to get people to subscribe.

As for a sports channel news ... keep dreaming. It isn't going to happen as BT don't have any need to promote the FL at all or the other PL games that they don't have. BT have a clear focus of quad play and remember in an ideal world they wanted rid of a DTT channel, not to actually create one.

Exactly its a channel to fulfil obligations, not a FTA sports channel as some are expecting.

The real shame is something like Eurosport doesn't want to go FTA like it is in some other countries.

BT Sport News purpose would be simply a marketing tool to promote BT Sport (just like Pick TV, Sky News and Challenge are marketing tools for Sky, Quest for Discovery and Dave, Really, Yesterday & Drama for Gold etc)

BT doesn't need that though. Its all about the home of live sport - or some slogan like that.

Not about sports news and they want cheap Freeview TV not spending money on it.

So why did Sky do it for Sky Sports News a few years back? BT will do what BT wants to do to promote their product. I hope it is a Sports News channel

Sky did it because it was part of a Freeview bid , which was up against Eurosport in a rival bid. It was away if including sport as part of the offer.

Even if it doesn't turn out like a sports news channel BT showcase will still be showing - for whatever reasons - 26 live games from the two European club tournaments as well as 9 live rugby matches from the Aviva Premiership. And they are talking about bringing tennis, motor racing and UFC to this Freeview channel as well.
Can we all see how it turns out before we start moaning about it ?

No they aren't ..its others speculating they could bring xy and z.

What the advert says is the CL and Europa L matches on BT Sport Showcase. That is thrown in at the end of the subs info.

I think people just need to be realistic and not get their hopes up. The only real spots channel on Freeview is Motors TV which is good if your a motorsport fan.

It's started. This is what you get until a live game which is FTA appears on it.

So, do we have any idea what they are going to actually show on the channel yet, or is the thread just going to descend into chatter about the channel and Sky Sports? Can we not just have a sticky thread with the details of actual upcoming sporting events and no chatter?

No one knows. BT will decide what games are FTA as and when it suits. They have to show each British team at least once and the champions league final.

So you can rest assured BT will probably allow the marketing dept to choose the match that is to be shown.

Some quote also says some rugby matches could appear - if that proves to be the case, who knows. It's a marketing channel and not a TV channel as we know it, so everything will just be very adhock.

I suspect check the press adverts as this will be how they will promote the games that are free. Of course the marketing strategy in the long term could be to keep it less well promoted, making you have to keep going back to the channel and putting the BT Sport brand in your mind. That is very detailed marketing through if they go that route.

Also will it be an ad funded channel? I'm surprised they have worked out to be on a fairly expensive multiplex as we all know BT were looking to reduce broadcasting costs of Freeview.

Noticed on that channel the bar now clearly says "This is a BT promotional channel".

Wonder if they have been forced to put this message on there?
