Why is the reason for that strobing, flicking effect that appears along the white lines on the pitch. It ruins the match viewing experience.
Tbh I wondered that myself. I tried changing the resolution of the box down, but it helped little.
The weird effect on the lines was one of the reasons I gave up at half time as the picture was just hurting my eyes in the end.

I believe it is the outcome of trying to display a straight line at an angle to the horizontal scanning of the picture in combination with a low resolution/ bit rate which makes the line jagged. Each scan changes the attempt at presenting the line. Of course, low resolution means it never can quite get it right.

How many times does this need repeated - BT don't care about Showcase. They want it to be as poor as possible so as to encourage people to subscribe.

Talk of a full schedule and HD is wishful thinking.
What he says ^^^

I'm not so sure on this.

It is still a new channel and I think there will be alot more content on it as the season progresses.

Look at tonight for example. The fact that they have shown a Liverpool game so early on in the competition must mean that they will show them again on the channel if they progress into the knock-out stages.

This will be a win win situation for Freeview viewers anyway.

Sports news is possible.

I reckon they will have it as a full time channel in a few years once there subscription base is as high as it will be.

The picture quality is dire though. Why not just show it in HD ITV use so the channel looks silly. No need to hold back on HD they are ahead of Sky having Super HD 4K.
I remember reading an interview a few months ago in which BT's John Petter said to the effect there was a market and a need for a free to air sports channel and that's something that BT would be looking into.

I think he's right because Sky Sports News was very popular on Freeview before it was taken off the platform by Sky (boo, hiss). I can see a scenario whereby BT Sport Showcase could morph into a part time promo channel and a part time sports news, repeats and highlights channel with a few live events. If put on Freeview, Freesat, Virgin Media, etc, I'm sure it would get very good ratings and could survive as an advert funded channel.

I'm not sure why you draw that conclusion.

They've shown Liverpool tonight in a fairly nondescript game precisely so they don't have to show them later in the competition. They're now ticked off the "will show at least once" list.

No they have shown then now so they don't have to show them again. Now if you want to watch them, you have to pay.

As for more content, keep dreaming. You launch a channel usually with content to attract viewers and advertise it...BT to neither.

Stop looking at this from the point of view of an enthusiast for a moment, but as a member of Joe Public. Finding that there is a sports channel carrying endless adverts they look at the EPG and find nothing. A check sometime later and still nothing. A game appears on the EPG with 2 days notice and Joe Public misses it without realising. Still no change so JP stops checking this channel and watches sport on other Freeview channels. Channel dies.

Well, no, because the channel is not designed to generate any income; it exists to tick a box.

The only games they're contractually committed to showing FTA are the Champions League and Europa League finals. It might be they'll promote them a bit more so there's some audience figures to show UEFA. But beyond that, they want people to think the only way to watch the CL and EL is with a BT subscription.

Yes and then Joe public goes "oh I didn't know BT Sport has the CL this year". " Let's see how much that costs to add to our broadband package".

Job done. BT gain a new customer and not people expecting FTA sport

True and I bet adverts would pay more than constant BT ads. BT have plenty of national newspaper ads and on tv ads anyway.

And who is going to advertise on a BT promo channel? One which is watched by hardly anyone and certainly for no length of time.

It's what it says it is. BT Sport Showcast. That is a promotional channel for BT. No other brand. Just BT.

It's not a sports channel showing constant events. That's not even the plan. It's a channel that has to be there to fulfil a need. It's not on any other platform and has a very naff PQ ...because BT don't want it to be good.

BT are a pay broadcaster and want people to pay for their channels. Not give it away free.

Many would love a FTA sports channel but the closest Freeview has to that is Motors TV on channel 71 or 240.

Which they don't.

It's about getting people to choose BTTV, not Freeview.

Well, no, it's not actually. I subscribe to a 14-day programme guide and just quoted an extract from that (btw it's not always 100% accurate).

I'd say rather good and better than anything Murdoch's Sky would ever have offered.

Maybe they could put the final MotoGP race on it, Just as a taster for next season.

Has live Premiership Rugby ever been shown live on free tv prior to BT showcase ?
If not then this is a good little bonus for rugby union fans.

BT Sport showed at least one Premiership game 'free' (unencrypted) a couple of seasons back IIRC.
