Humax FVP-4000T Triple Tuner
This appears to have soft-launched with several online retailers and even appears in the printed Argos catalogue. The reviews on What Hi-Fi etc all seem to be regurgitations of the press release.
As a possible replacement for my aging HDR Fox T2 I am interested but would like to see screenshots/manual/actual reviews before I part with the cash. I can't find it on the UK Humax site and it looks like retailers are expecting stock shortly. Did anyone see the demo at the Freeview Play press event in May? Has anyone found a manual or actual review online? |

My guess is that it will go on sale within six weeks. |

There was an interesting blog posted on digitaluk last March that pointed to the headline changes in the new d-book, which freeview play devices should be based on. Alhough it is not clear whether all the headlines will be compulsory in a freeview play badged recorder. http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/about_dig...prove_retuning Whathifi how explained, in the first week of July, what the 3 tuners for freeview play would be capable of: "With 3 x HD TV tuners you can record up to 4 programmes at once and watch a 5th Live channel!". Read more at http://www.whathifi.com/humax/fvp-4000t/overview Barry at myhumax.org created some FAQs today for the FVP-4000-T which gives some more clues to the nature of it. https://myhumax.org/forum/forum/fvp-4000t |

My understanding was that this was not a demo of an actual product but a demo of how the epg will look.
Based on how long the manual for the HDR-2000T took to be available online that may be a while for the manual to be widely available There was an interesting blog posted on digitaluk last March that pointed to the headline changes in the new d-book, which freeview play devices should be based on. This seems to be available to buy in at least one location for £199.00 delivered:
http://www.hughes.co.uk/vision/freev...00gb-m/product I was wondering if this is a good buy to replace my 9150T? Although not sure about the colour; http://www.whathifi.com/humax/fvp-4000t/overview Also with most,(all), of the other Humax pvr's, they have 2 tuners and can record 2 programmes at once whilst watching a third. How can this one with 3 tuners record 4 programmes? . |

I think it will be a good step forward from the previous Freeview boxes once the software is mature. Whether it is a good idea to be an early adopter is a personal choice.Quote:

You are by no means the only one to have reservations about the look of the product. Personally I care far more about the functionality than the look.Quote:
Also with most,(all), of the other Humax pvr's, they have 2 tuners and can record 2 programmes at once whilst watching a third. The other Humax boxes could potentially record four with two tuners (providing the four programs come from the same two multiplexes. the limitation to record two is I think because the CPU power of PVRs is relatively limited (compared to a PC). The current boxes can be working the CPU quite hard when recording two HD programs, playing back an HD program and streaming a program simultaneously.. I assume the FVP-4000T has a more powerful CPU and there will be a limitation that two of the programs to be recorded will need to be from the same multiplex.
How can this one with 3 tuners record 4 programmes? . |

It is very ugly and if the finished product looks like that sales will be very low. Wives don't want ugly things in their houses no mater how well they work.

I'd love to know what the holdup is with these new boxes and the Freeview Play service in general. I'm ready to completely jump ship from Virgin Media to Freeview for TV, and I'm hoping this will be the right box to do it. Though I'll definitely want to read some reviews before I pull the trigger.

No delay as such, Freeview Play have always stated to launch late 2015. Now that Panasonic have certain TV's on the market waiting for the software to be released and the Humax FVP-4000T ready to launch, I wouldn't mind betting that September will be the month

Sorry I guess I didn't mean 'delay' in the official sense. I just assumed that with the availability of the Panasonic TVs, the FVP software for those would be switched on in short order, quickly followed by the official release of the Humax boxes. Some forums online were hinting end of July but that didn't happen, and a lot of online shops had/have hidden pages for the FVP-4000T all ready to go. I was just wondering if they've run into any issues with the FVP software that caused them to push back to official launch.

I think that the new Humax box will launch to coincide with the Official launch of Freeview Play.
Went into our local Hughes branch last Wednesday to ask if they had any of these boxes that they had on their website for £199.00, after looking on the computer and finding one sold, but not delivered/received on 19th July, he could find no information and called the area rep, no answer and left a message. He called me back the day after and said the rep had said these boxes would be available from October, although when in October he did not know. Also from this spec: http://www.hughes.co.uk/vision/freev...bcfc1be1666f4e It has no pause live TV, RF in & out, no series record and no PIP. . Last edited by realistic246 : 22-08-2015 at 09:01. I agree.
I have been told by Humax that it is being launched in "Several" weeks. Which could mean anything. I have a hunch that the system to broadcast the data is not ready yet. Some Panasonic owners have been told that the service is to launch in August. |

First of all no one can sell the Humax FVP4000T boxes until Humax release them which they are not going to do until 'Freeview Play' is officially launched. As for the specs on the Hughes web site, I think you can take them as being incorrect.
I hope you are correct re the specs, however that is only your opinion as there is nothing else to go on. And why would they put "bad" specs relating to a product they want to sell? . |

I actually saw the computer screen with the name of the female and the purchase price dated 19th July 2015 and the salesman told me that price had been paid to Hughes.

Even major errors like Argos describing Freeview PVRs as requiring a satellite dish. It's simply unthinkable that anyone would release a PVR without the ability to do series record or pause live TV as they are part of the Freeview Play specification. |

The freeview Play specification is at Link to Freeview Play Specification. Section 3 says (amongst other things) "Full Freeview+ capability in PVR devices" so I think we can safely assume pause and series record will be available. I doubt that you will get PIP as none of the more recent Humax boxes (Freeview, Youview or Freesat) have featured PIP.
Lack of information from the manufacturer or cock up. |

Thanks for the specification link. Looks like the FVP-4000T will be worth the wait.
