The box has no capability to wake on lan signalling, it can only be booted locally either by the remote control or by the physical switch on the unit or by a built in start up like a watch or record reservation.. So the only way is to programme a periodic wake up. No idea if the FVP4000T will be similar, however given the requirement for a less than 0.5W sby power I guess it probably will be. If so I would only pair the app if you are away from home for say a holiday.

You can get info on the current programme by pressing the OK button twice. Something I found while playing around with the button combinations.

You misunderstood what I was saying.
When watching TV live you then go into the guide and look at other programmes currently being broadcast, you cannot get information on them without the box switching to that channel.
The OK twice method for finding info in other circumstances is a basic function of the machine. It's also one of it's failures.

I think that a lot of the problem Humax have had is that because of 'Catchup TV' everything is so dependent of the net side of things. Hence the slowness and overcomplicated implementation of the whole process.
Personally, I can't see the point of the backward EPG, you only need the catchup service apps to achieve all you want. Ironically, they also provide those for you.

Yes and it looks far superior on their TV's. If they implement the same on their set top boxes then Humax can say bye to this customer.

My advice to anyone thinking of getting a STB for Freeview Play, would be to wait until the Panasonic boxes hit the streets and make the comparison.

I'm certainly going to do that now.

That's my feeling also, I am curious as to what the UI is going to be like. If it is worth buying then I will sacrifice not having three tuners which is what I wanted.

Does the TV version allow SD recordings archiving, and streaming live TV and SD recordings to a tablet/smart phone ?

Having viewed a couple of videos on YouTube showing the Panasonic Freeview Play programme guide,I can only say Humax have a lot to learn. My FVP-4000T is staying,if only for the stunning picture quality. Just hoping improvements will follow!

Isn't the TV picture quality down to the TV? If you have a rubbish TV then the picture will be rubbish no matter how good the PVR/FVP.

A twin tuner device (or is just a single tuner) would be pointless if it can't record.

If it's not a recorder no matter how good the epg looks it can't possibly be compared to a triple tuner pvr.

My Panasonic TV has twin freetime and twin Freeview recorders and can record any two at once. It's no replacement for a pvr though.

Depends what the box does to the signal. I have a Foxsat-HDR and a HDR1000S connected to same TV. The later HDR1000S has a significantly superior picture.

I don't think anyone was professing that the TV could replace a good PVR. The search is on for a decent one as we type.
I would sacrifice a tuner for a decent UI. So, I don't agree that you can't compare the two.
Hopefully Panasonic will keep their TV UI on the PVR when it comes out.
That said, there are going to be a few different Play PVR's launched fairly soon. Not sure any of them could out do Humax in the ugly stakes with their UI's.

Yes you can.

But it only transfers in real time doesn't it? That's a real PITA.

If you have a PC look in Windows Explorer Network Devices, you should find the FVP-4000T mapped as a network drive. Simply drag and drop SD recordings to a Folder on another drive which is on your PC.

Sorry, talking at crossed purposes. I don't have this new 4000 device. I was talking about transferring recordings to USB from my Humax FOX 2 recorder.

The slow copying is down to the process of decrypting the content. If you install the custom firmware the box can decrypt recordings in situ. Once decrypted they can be copied directly to a PC - no usb device is required.

I tried selecting Genre (by some fairly convoluted key presses!) to find Movies, but could only get a display of Movies that are on today? Does anyone know how to find a list of movies coming up in the next week?

I use this function quite a lot on my HDR-T2 so am hoping I can do the same thing on the FVP-4000T

Only for that day. Press the plus button when the cursor is on a next programme. Select a genre and press the OK button.
That seems to be the only way to do it and it only shows that days programmes. You can change the order into Name, Time, Channel etc by pressing the plus button again, but, that's about it.
Ridiculous really when the guide is online, you should be able to work miracles with it.....Not in a Humax world, at least.

You need the custom firmware to decrypt in situ. Otherwise you have to decrypt using a usb transfer (Foxy required to decrypt HD on copy to usb). ftp copies remain encrypted.
