I agree about the remote, the Humax one is abysmal.
The recorded picture won't be any better than the transmitted picture and your TV is probably upscaling whatever is there.
As long as you are enjoying it, that's the main consideration.
Anyway, there will soon be some Panny reviews out there, hopefully, it'll give a better alternative.”
A tad baffled. Whether or not the TV is upscaling and/or de-interlacing depends on the scaler setting chosen on the source and of course the channel you are viewing.
If you set the source box to output 1080p, the TV does no scaling or de-interlacing at all (Though depending on settings it may be messing with the video in other ways).
Freeview-HD is a mixture of 1920 x 1080 interlaced (50 frames/second - 25fps) and 1080p25 (also 1920 x 1080). SD channel resolution is 576i with the worst having 544 x 576 pixels rising to 720 (704) x 576 for the best channels.
As to can't be better than the source. of course it can't but the picture quality on decent TV's is massively superior to cheap Vestel sets sold under a variety of different names, and they get the same sources.
I do not have the box, but can understand the picture quality may well be superior. Connected to my high end Panasonic, I have a first generation Freesat+ box (Humax Foxsat-HDR) and a second generation freetime box (Humaxm HDR 1000S), The newer unit has a significantly superior picture despite having the same sources.
As to the Panasonic range, if you use a rf system to transmit pictures to other TV's it apparently will not work as it is reported is no analogue outputs of any description.
