Has anyone noticed that on the Humax you can select 2160p for the resolution in video settings? Selecting this doesn't actually change anything but I thought it was interesting that its there.”

1080p is the highest setting available on mine.

What TV/HDMI port do you have it connected to?

I emailed my list of woes to Humax on Saturday 2nd, who to their credit replied later that evening which I wasn't expecting (particularly given some reports on here). They said they had been receiving "mixed reports" which they would pass to the development team for future updates, and couldn't promise to fix everything but would look into it.

They did however say the sluggishness, channel changing issue and crashing definitely shouldn't be happening and suggested a factory default reset. Luckily this doesn't actually wipe the recordings on the box so I had a go and I'm happy to say the crashing during standby is no longer happening and the on-screen programme listing keeps up when you changing channels. It's a bit quicker - still much slower than I'd like, but slightly better. This probably explains why some people are reporting no issues at all with the unit and others are tearing their hair out. It still has a useless interface and multiple things that could be better, but it's not crashing on me which was making it an expensive paperweight...

One thing I did notice last night is that the EPG on BBC2 (both SD and HD) took forever to display the Bowie tribute after Newsnight (even when I sat on the correct muxes), when the YouView EPG on my Sony TV and the old T2 box in the spare room both were updated hours earlier. I think FVP finally removed the snooker highlights about an hour before it went out. Not sure if this is FVP or Humax, but either way not good.

Finally does anyone know what the play signs surrounded by a dotted line are on the EPG? I thought it was "watch live" initially but it seems to show up on programmes up to an hour ahead.

Guessing here.

One poster has his box connected to a UHD TV, the other a HD TV. Part of the HDMI handshake is the destination telling the source the resolutions it supports. The chipset in the FVP4000T does have UHD support, whether it can be used to upscale content to 2160P is a different question

At a guess it will cope with Netflix You Tube and Amazon UHD source files at native resolution.

@grahamlthompson Yes I agree which is why I was asking about the TV and port.

I should also say that I'm connected to a HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 port on a Samsung UHD UE48JU7000.

Appears this is available in 2tb now.

Its been available since early December from Humaxdirect for £299 and was announced in October.
It looks overpriced at £299 plus £3.90 P&P. Apart from the colour of the box probably the only difference is the 2TB HDD which based on other Humax models is likely to be the Seagate ST2000VM003 Pipeline that can easily be had retail for £70.

The price difference between 1TB and a 2TB seagate pipeline is only about £25 which makes the 2TB FVP-4000T £45 over priced for what it is, unless Humax have concerns of increased warranty claims.

I've just downloaded an update dated 11th Jan2016 but don't notice any difference. Anyone know any more about this?

For the hassle I think I would just stomach the asking price.

Whenever I attempt to update, all I get is the blue triangle spinning. After five minutes the only way out is to power off at the mains.

When used with some TV's the box will not boot up to show a picture if it's recording in sby (HDCP handshake or CEC issues). If you did not have the problem you must have a TV that is not affected.

Hopefully this should cure that problem.

There are claims that the latest software update 1.00.73 has fixed the problem for several people so work arounds may not be necessary.

That's good to know. I had high hopes for this PVR and was going to buy one but many of the comments on this thread are quite negative so hopefully my trusty Fox T-2 will last a bit longer.

Something I've noticed tonight which I've not seen before it's that I've set the box to record 24 hours in a&e and a message popped up suggesting another programme I might like to record (bodyshockers which on straight after). It then asks if I'd like it recording by clicking on yes or no. Potentially a good feature. Possibly part of the update?

That feature has been on offer since the box first went on sale.

Since the last Humax software update if 2160p is selected it now strongly downgrades to 576i.

Also the current Youtube app on Humax does not show 4k where as the Youtube app on Samsung Smart Hub does.
I'd be surprised in all honesty if the box will ever really support 4k of any type as its just sooooo slow even when using the epg or any of the apps. Its such a smooth experience when the app is powered by the TV itself.

I'd be surprised if this box lasted more than a few more months without a major software update to something modern.....Humax appear to be ignoring the fact that they have something with the worse UI ever produced and one of the slowest boxes around.
I've abandoned mine to the spare TV, as it's not fit for nightly viewing and gone back to my T2, even though it's become a bit temperamental. It's still better than the FVP-4000T.

Try removing the power for 15 minutes.

Well I have the 2000T and although it does work reliably I couldn't in all honesty recommend it as Humax appear to have cut every penny possible from design to build quality. I have come to the conclusion that it takes Humax around a year to get their products up to speed - until then we're all beta testers.

I consider the HDR 1000/1010s to be a far superior offering - it's just a pity Freesat don't put more effort into getting a better range of apps.
