I consider the HDR 1000/1010s to be a far superior offering - it's just a pity Freesat don't put more effort into getting a better range of apps.”

To be honest the Fox-T2 didn't give me any problems in all the years I had it.
Freetime is a waste of time really on the 4000fvp if the catch up Apps are there.
Too many apps would be a wasted on it, there are far better ways to get Apps on the TV.
The whole thing is too slow, IMO, to be used for anything seriously. As I said I've relegated it to the study now where it's lack of anything is not noticed as it's hardly ever used.

I really do have to disagree with the negative comments regarding this receiver. I gave Virgin Media the boot just after christmas and bought the 1tb cappuccino model.

I had very low expectations after nearly 5 years with TiVo but I have to say that the box is very responsive, catch up TV is far quicker than TiVo ever was, picture quality on channels such as the CBS bouquet massively out-strips Virgin, the You Tube app is much speedier and more importantly my partner (who is a complete technophobe) has found it so much easier to navigate.

I do miss the function to remote record via an app but I'm ever hopeful this will come in time. Also the remote took a bit of time to get used to but find it perfectly user friendly now.

I suggest that anyone who is finding the box 'too slow' or 'virtually unusable' ought to think about getting it replaced. Surely I'm not the only person with a box that, in my opinion, works perfectly and does everything it is supposed to and more.

I have had the FVP-4000T since its launch, and it has been rock solid. No missed recordings, top quality picture, and all players including YouTube have been ultra reliable. I've had one lockup since purchase, which was easily resolved. I agree with other users comments regarding the programme guide which could be better, but I can live with it. So,well done Humax as I am more than happy with my purchase.

I'm another pretty satisfied customer. I've had the FVP-4000 since before Christmas and have been pleased with it overall. It hasn't missed a set recording (though C4 progs sometimes cut off early, more to do with C4 than the machine), and I find it easy to use. The family took to it very quickly, including my technophobic partner, which is a real win! The multiple tuners have been a real boon.

I'd prefer the programme guide to be a smaller font so it would fit more channels into a screen view, and a little faster, but it does the job. I have had the occasional problem booting from sleep, which is irritating, solved by turning off/on at the mains. If it's a software problem I hope Humax will deal with it in a future update. The remote's not brilliant - I miss the dedicated 'info' button from my venerable 8000t.

Overall I'd give it a B-. If I get the same life out of it as I did the 8000t, I'll be very pleased.

What software version are you using? There is supposed to be an improvement in this area with version 1.00.73.

It's the 1.00.73 version. They haven't fully solved it yet, it seems.

If only they would provide remote record from an app. It's the only thing I miss from the YouView box.

Checked my recording schedule just now and all entries have disappeared! Anyone else suffered this problem?

Did you do the re-tune for Dave/Home renumbering?

I don't know about the FVP-4000, I only got it yesterday, but on the FOXHDR a channel scan would always reset the scheduled recordings.

This drives me mad on the Humax freeview PVRs i.e. wiping the recording schedule. Why they can't add a feature like Panasonic has i.e. the ability to scan for new channels and it adds them without touching the recording schedule is beyond me.

I agree this is a good feature on the Panasonic but the downside is that the New Channel Scan is essentially an auto-tune so will pick up multiple transmitters if available. The feature could be improved by only scanning multiplexes already stored in the machine, so essentially a previous manual tune stayed a manual tune after the channel update.

Nothing more than warm, despite being perched on top of quite a toasty amp, which is probably not best practice on my part!

It hasn't 'overheated' yet but when using a usb device to view anything then it gets hotter than usual and the sticks/connector get very hot. I've tried this on two machines.
It doesn't affect anything on a day to day basis, but, I think it may have an effect on the Hard drive longevity.

On another note, no updates yet and the speed and UI are a pig still....

You could get one then test it straight away to see what you think. If it's not something you would think was a problem, then fine, if it is, just return it.
As I said, it hasn't affected the day to day running of the machine.

It depends what you mean by 'should'.

The Freeview standard defined by D-Book 7 does not require smart tuning where the schedule is retained where still meaningful.

The Freeview standard defined by D-Book 8 does require the schedule to be retained. D-Book 8 kicks in from the start of April 2016. Any recorder that wants to be certified as Freeview play compliant from April 2016 onwards may have some difficulty getting through certification testing for Freeview play under D-Book 8. Without that certification new recorders will not be able to describe themselves as 'Freeview Play'

After March 2016 when D-Book 8 kicks in, recorders certified before April 2016 are permitted to continue to use the 'Freeview play' badge whether or not the manufacturer improves the software to make it smart tuning compliant.

Which may explain why Humax released an unfinished and slow UI in a hurry.

I doubt it; maintaining a patched recording schedule after a retune isn't very difficult (particularly post DSO) as demonstrated by the custom firmware for the HDR-FOX T2. Why Humax have left things as they are for so long is a mystery to me.

I could give one try do know if you have usb stick in all day and night with out using it will it still get hot I was talking to someone the other day he said he know someone who had one it overheated and caught fire I don't believe him I think he made it up. Just wondering if I watch recording without using stick if still gets hot or should take stick out when I not using it.

I doubt one caught fire.......I've given up on mine for the most part now so haven't done any real comparison. It felt very hot when using the stick but just very warm when using normally from what I can remember. So, just having the stick in doesn't make any difference if it's not being used. I wasn't concerned about fire, just the possibility of early hard drive failure due to excessive heat.
If someone asked me for an opinion on whether to buy or not....I would definitely say avoid, the whole UI is flawed and totally unintuitive. It's slow to the point of being really annoying with little common sense applied to any of the functions.
Just my opinion of course, for what it's worth....

I started using PVRs with a 9200T which I liked very much.
Then I bought an HDR-Fox T2 which had some improvements but one or two annoyances compared to the 9200T but overall I am pleased with it.
I was REALLY looking forward to the FVP-4000T.
I am glad I waited to see the reviews. What an utter shambles Humax seem to have made with the FVP-4000T in both UI and performance and what a disappointment.
How can Humax have got it so wrong?
This all IMHO, of course.
