The extra stuff that the Humax Freeview HD records is the entire epg stream for the multiplex. The overhead for HD on the main BBC HD mux is just 4% due to there not being many channels and the large recording space required by the video iteslf. For a low bit Radio it can increase the file size by 700%. For an average SD programme its varies between 12 and 23%, my guess is an average of 18%.
So what do the other manufacturers do?

Hi, looking to purchase this item but having no luck, have seen it advertised in the Argos catalogue but out of stock?

Can anyone let me know when this item is likely to be released or where I can purchase one from

Thank you in advance
Just this minute had this reply from HUMAX DIRECT regarding the FVP4000T.

Thank you for contacting Humax.

Unfortunately we do not have a confirmation on the release date just yet for this model, but it is expected to be released very soon.

It would be best to simply keep an eye on our Facebook page or sign-up for our newsletter on Humax Direct, so that you can hear as soon as it has been released.

I've emailed Humax Direct on numerous occasions regarding the release date, and always get a different answer.

I think there may have been a change of plan. It appeared on the Humax Direct site the other day and then disappeared. The Humax twitter retweeted some of the marketing material and then a couple of days later said there was no news.

Sounds like a bit of a cock up regarding Humax and the FVP-4000T release.

All very strange, I have just checked out Hughes and yes some stores have it in stock and yet HUMAX DIRECT are telling us that they do not know when it is being released

Even stranger that Argos are not selling it yet. With the HDR-2000T they were 'selling' it weeks before it was available and substituting another PVR in its place when you went to collect. Not every one noticed that they had been handed a different model.

Will the humax be able to receive the internet channels like vintage TV and such?

I will hold fire until reviews come out. Still not keen on the looks though, but having said that performance is the key. Manhattan PVR's come out later so I might hold off and see what they have to offer. I think the key is whether other PVR's go with the 3 tuners like Humax? Panasonic haven't.
If recording non Freesat recordings is important to you, i've been told that the Manhattan PVR's can do this.

What's Freesat got to do with it? Are you in the wrong thread?

I cannot understand why Humax UK or Humax Direct are not showing the FVP-4000T or promoting Freeview Play, just seems a bit strange?

I just spoke to Hughes as to why it was no longer available...

"since your conversation this morning we have been advised this model has not been officially released and were not allowed to sell them at the moment"

I asked Barry at MyHimax.org about this. This is his answer:

Vintage TV works along with a few others, CCTV, Racing UK, Sonlife, Motors TV, Dating, JSTV, kykNET, ABN TV, Passion, Showcase TV.

VuTV - Not supported overlay

TV Player, Vision TV, Huda TV - May not work as intended overlay, and do not appear to work.

Planet Knowledge - may not work as intended overlay, but appears to work ok

Following my post above regarding Hughes, I have just purchased the last one from my local store which I will set up and have a play with later.

Any questions, let me know.

If you could do a basic review for us that would be appreciated

Seems to be the case,as when I asked Humax Direct a week ago when this box would be available,I was told four to six weeks.
I just spoke to Hughes as to why it was no longer available...

"since your conversation this morning we have been advised this model has not been officially released and were not allowed to sell them at the moment"
I also spoke to Hughes this afternoon regarding my planned delivery on Wednesday, and was told as it was already paid for,I would receive it. All other stock has been put on hold.

Argos have told me they may not be selling it after all.

Strangest launch of a product I can remember.

Well after setting it all up this evening, I can see why they have decided not to officially launch the product yet. It doesn't seem ready.

From the moment you start using it, it certainly seems a bit slow. Not as responsive as my Humax Fox HDR T2.

The only scroll back on demand channels that work are BBC, nothing at all from ITV, 4 or 5 although iPlayer, All 4, ITV Player and 5od all appear in the separate 'apps' section of the box.

The screen is occasionally flicking on and off, can't work out why but sometimes it cuts out for a second when changing channel or navigating the menus.

You get proper channel logos in the guide (downloaded from the web) and thumbnail photos on the now and next part, which is the default view when pressing the guide button. You then need to press right to see a 'normal' view of the guide.

The only thing that is annoying is that there is no dedicated 'media' or 'recordings' button, you have to go to 'home' and then scroll to the 'recordings' section to see what you've recorded.

Here's plenty of photos showing the setup and various menus etc...
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6fi44u04d...Z83-l4kja?dl=0

If anyone has any questions, please ask.

I won't be swapping out my current recorder yet, I am assuming a firmware update is imminent and will check again after that.
