The enhanced (?) guide is too slow......I have a 150Mb BB connection. In this day and age the delays are annoying and unnecessary (even half a second!! but, it's more like one second).
The UI is far larger than necessary which limits the amount of information on screen.
Yes the pic quality is excellent but so is the one on my TV. This box's prime function is as a recorder and player. So, I don't agree that viewing is 99.9% of the experience. If you are peed off by the time you get to watching something then the experience is somewhat tainted.
AFAIK know the enhanced(?) guide cannot be disabled, It's what provides the programme information. I disconnected the BB to see what happens and you get the guide but lose all the extra programme information.
Not being able to make folders and move your recordings about is a major step backward. No excuse for not adding this most basic of functions/needs.
Not being able to see the programme you are watching whilst bringing up the guide or information is another step backwards.
The remote has an awful layout (nothing more to add to that).
Yes, the thing does most of it's job, but, not in a efficient and pleasing manner. It's what it doesn't do or does badly that lets it down, obviously.

Sorry for the late response. I was away from home. Others have answered most of these. It doesn't seem possible to create a folder.

Series events are handled differently from the FoxT2. There is one thumbnail for the programme. This will have a number showing the number of episodes and a NEW banner if there are new episodes. Clicking on this shows a list of episodes by date and on the right the programme information.

Incidentally, if a programme is available on demand it will appear in place in the guide even if the broadcast is in the future. I find this very useful.

Thanks again prking.
Not being able to create folders is absolutely ridiculous. It was there on the Fox T2 so why not here.
This, along with other changes means I will be looking at other offerings as I'm reluctant to buy one of these as it stands now.
From what has been said it looks like this is Humax's "Windows 8", IMHO.

As a potential buyer I have been reading all the user comments with interest and I must say so far I am not impressed and I am wondering whether or not Humax has produced a lemon?

That's a bit annoying, it's already annoying enough having to jump between SD and HD on the main guide.

I'm glad it's not just me that thinks this. I notice in the instruction manual that there is a menu item mentioned to turn off the IP guide.

I wonder this is a disabled feature or one to come.

However I agree with what you've said, it is just too slow all round.

When you look at the (I assume Panasonic) guide on the Freeview Play website the layout looks so much better than the Humax one.

I wouldn't have thought the layout of the guide had anything to do with Humax. Surely Freeview's software engineers can take credit for that.

Do the Series Folders get flagged as having new, unwatched content or do you have to open the folder to check if there is new content?

A diagonal banner saying NEW shows on the Series Folder, which includes a thumbnail.

Well the image of the guide on the Freeview Play website looks nothing like the one on the Humax box...

I really wish the guide looked like the one on that link, it looks so much better.

Thanks for that. One reason why I keep Series Folders turned off on my Digitalstream as it doesn't flag new content at the folder level.

No, because, as I understand it, the software is open source and each manufacturer can skin it how they like as long as the basic functions are kept and the Freeview play logo is always displayed.
The Humax mess is entirely their own fault.

They have never seemed able to design a decent interface or remote control - it seems a poor idea for Freeview Play to allow Humax to mess it up.

That is the Panasonic EPG I believe as per their TV's. I am still undecided re the Humax, I might wait and have a look at the Panasonic PVR's due at the end of this month. I did really want 3 tuners though and they only have 2. Life wasn't meant to be easy.

Is it possible to record catch-up programmes?

Is there anyway to output recorded programmes to a DVD recorder? (highly irregular I'm sure)

Not really irregular. I guess you can record what you see on the TV screen but only in composite video quality. The only analogue outputs for video are CVBS. If your recorder supports the superior RGB quality, available from a scart socket, there isn't one.

Most likely no need as I understand it the box has a DLNA client. If the files exist on a PC/Tablet etc or on a drive connected to it, then provided the PC/Tablet has a DLNA server you can watch directly.
