Yes I know that.......I have one (read earlier posts) ......
I was referring to a Users manual.

No, only future programmes can be recorded.
You could transfer any SD files to any external drive (USB, NAS, PC etc.) and then burn it to a DVD possibly. HD programming will only play on the device it was recorded on, as usual.
AFAIK there's no way to connect directly to a DVD recorder.

Supported files as follows:-
Video: MP4, VOB, AVI, ASF, MKV, MPEG-2TS
Photo: JPEG, PNG, BMP, GIF
Music: MP3

Rear Connections...
RF in - RF out - RCA Cable - SPDIF - HDMI - Ethernet - Power
WiFi Capable.

Hope those bits help with some of the queries people have.

Connect RCA to SCART cable from the Humax RCA to the DVD scart in?

This, along with other changes means I will be looking at other offerings as I'm reluctant to buy one of these as it stands now.
From what has been said it looks like this is Humax's "Windows 8", IMHO.”

I would try one and see what you think. It's certainly very different from earlier Humax models and this is sure to polarise opinion. In my opinion, based on a few days use, its not as bad as you might be led to believe. However, it wouldn't be fair to give a final judgement until I've used it for a while. As an early adopter you get used to a few initial quirks.

Couldn't agree more. I'll be keeping mine if only for the superb picture quality. It has its quirks, but it is still very early days, and hopefully a software update or two will sort it out. Mine has been very reliable regarding recording, and have had no problems regarding catch up players and YouTube. One plus would be a remote record app.

I'm quite tempted to get this unit as my 9300 is stuttering too much on many recordings. Trouble is our plasma screen is RGB and I can't find any way of converting HDMI to RGB.

Any suggestions very welcome.

I haven't given up yet!
I think the 3 tuners will persuade me to get one and I'll have to live without being able to create folders.

I imagine your Plasma will have component video inputs. If so you need a HDCP compatible HDMI to Component Converter.

Random Example

Thanks for that. Yes, it has one input (currently in use for the DVD player) but at least I now have a way forward.

I'd like to be an early adopter but not too keen on the design as a bit like you typical ready meal packet found in supermarkets etc. However, I willingly would try it, to complement my FOX 2 Humax if I had a spare HDMI port on my Sony Bravia TV, but it's limited to two only, one being used by the existing Humax and the other by an old digital Pioneer DVD/HDD recorder. If I ditched the latter then I have lost a DVD player!
No, I'll bide my time until such time that my existing Humax bites the dust, so to speak and by then there may be new iterations of this new funny looking usurper.

Although I don't like the UI and for some reason, Humax haven't managed to make anything really intuitive and the lack of folders, the three tuners means I'll keep it.
As I'm getting used to it the effin and geffin has decreased slightly.
There are loads of other manufacturers jumping onto this particular wagon for Christmas and into the new year. Hopefully one of them will have a better UI and folders etc. If they do and Humax don't listen to the negatives and fix things, I'll just move to another box.

Why not just add a HDMI switch with more ports to your set up?
I'm using mine in tandem with the old FoxT2 until it finally dies.......Much better now that I found out how to make the remote controls act individually....

Not all DVD recorders can record RGB anyway. For these the recording quality is identical to scart.

Yes, I'm sure there are ways around this for the real enthusiast but I have to think of other people living in the house who are not clued up on these things. Anyway it's really ironical that I am even thinking of a triple recorder when I'm finding less and less enjoyable TV to record.

The question would be.........Why bother then? To be honest, I can't remember the last time I used a DVD/Blueray player, so, DVD recorders are not in the arsenal....

A HDMI switch is pretty simple to attach and operate.
I know what you mean about the TV.....Which is why I stuck with the 500Gb model and left the 1TB one alone...

Sorry if you've already given this info, but I've tried a thread search and it's not working, so I wonder if you could specify what you are comparing the new Humax to, re picture quality? If it's likely to be a significant improvement on my HDR Fox-T2, Vestel, or Panasonic plasma TV direct, then I might be tempted.

Note! "might be" tempted I can't fathom what Humax were thinking when they decided to start a new trend in gadget decor, nor why they have delayed the release of the 1TB model.

Are you using the SCART socket on the TV?, if not then connect your DVD via that, RGB SCART is just as good as HDMI for SD (and many find it slightly better).

As quality is crippled by the broadcasters, then it's not likely to be any better?.

There seems to be a slight improvement with SD channels over the Fox T2 but HD channels are as good as always on my set up. I think that whatever your TV gives you in that department will determine the quality, so I'm guessing it will be the same for you.
Nigel will probably throw more light on that subject. (I see he did while I was typing)
The form factor is a bit 'Marmite', but, in my case, it's small enough to hide away. So, it's not in anyone's face...
