Sad that she has died at 72.I always thought that she was more of an entertainer rather than a singer as I always found her singing to be a little off putting.
Having said that, she did rack up nearly 20 top 40 hits, so clearly lots of people enjoyed her records.

I remember her mostly as a TV presenter. I used to watch Surprise Surprise and Blind Date and I vaguely remember a show called The Moment of Truth, which I think she presented? Only song I know of hers is Anyone Who Had A Heart and I know that because Atomic Kitten did a cover.

A nil-nil draw.

She had a singing voice that would never have got anywhere today. But i liked her distinctive voice, i really love several of her tracks.

To me she was part, a big part, of the swinging sixties, and thats how ill remember her with most fondness. Wasnt overly keen on her presenting nor her politics.

She had the voice of an angel, but I think it is her many years as the Nation's favourite entertainer that she will be mostly remembered for.

I never watched any of her TV shows, not my kind of thing

But she was a good pop star in the 60s when she rode the Mersey wave, although never really in that pop mainstream. My memory is that she mainly did covers of Dionne Warwick but she was very good at it and stamped her own mark. She also sang/recorded a lot of Lennon-McCartney songs

Not sure if the nose job altered her voice but she seemed to lose the guttural sound which was a bit of her trademark or USP as we might say nowadays

She did OK !

Hearing some of her 60s hits now makes me realise how awful her voice was. I think she will be mainly remembered as a TV presenter. You can't really call her an entertainer as she was never multi-talented.

I mean, no one sings like that anymore, but it sounds pretty good to me, decent power with a nice tone.

I liked her voice.

She could do powerful and soft equally, as demonstrated on one of my favourites of hers, "Step Inside Love".

As an entertainer I never rated her. Very annoying.

As a person..bit of a cow, by all accounts.

I thought her best performance was Alfie. Burt Bacharach really got the best out of her. After that, her voice seemed to diminish along with the size of her nose

I am just playing her remix album Cilla All Mixed Up on Stoptify. It's so sad to hear that she has died

I don't get this at all. She was a very good singer actually (try 'Conversations'. 'Something tells me', 'You're My World', 'Step Inside Love'...) not a Dusty or an Aretha but who is?
She was also an actress for a while as well as a TV personality and presenter. Multi-talented yeah.

Sheridan Smith was a far better Cilla than Cilla ever was.

the fact that her career lasted 50+ years is quite an achievement, will the likes of Jessie J be able to claim that ?

Cilla's career should be a warning to us all.

Cilla's voice had the soft and the strong-You're My World is a great example:

I always got the impression though that she would have to have been on top form for the strong bits to work well.

I always thought she had a great distinctive voice in her heyday. But her saccharine parody of her hits and mainstream love appeal in later years on Saturday entertainment perhaps detracted from her true talent.

For me her early music was her greatest accomplishment.
