I think that a non premium sports channel like this would serve a similar purpose as Pick & Challenge on Freeview- the former to entice people to subscribe to Sky and the latter to entice them to upgrade their package.

Also to position against BT, who throw some sports in with their broadband package. Sky would now have something to counter that.

Challenge channel, that's just all old repeated quiz shows, what gets people to upgrade sky from that channel?

They have Sky adverts between programmes promoting Sky channels and programmes such as Duck Quacks Don't Echo that where shown on Sky 1.
Could this channel replace Sky Sports 5 and move to the Entertainment pack ?

As the amount of rights to live sports diminishes, it's gong to be harder and harder fo Sk to fill all it's channels.
At the mo it looks an ugly mess, and decent live stuff can be hidden - and missed- amongst all the repeats and fillers.
Wouldn't it be much tidier if there was only LIVE stuff ONLY on 1 and 2* with all the other stuff on the rest of the channels? *Clearly if there are more than 2 running events they use 3, 4 etc as appropriate.
As for showing stuff via the entertainment channels, I assume they will also be shown on the Sports channels!!

Sky were forced to wholesale 1 and 2 so that's why certain content (such as Spanish football) ends up on other channels. I believe the wholesale arrangement mandated that certain events such as Premier League should be shown on those 1 and 2 channels, whereas other stuff could be distributed out of reach of the basic wholesale arrangements. I think Sky generally makes all their sport channels available to everyone now with the exception of BT - who themselves continue to play silly games so Sky are just fighting back and competing. But because of BT trying to play wargames Sky will need to continue distributing attractive live events across all the channels.
