Bluey was a 1976 police procedural made by
Crawford Productions who specialised in police dramas (Crawfords made their first soap/serial,
The Box, in 1974. They launched another serial,
The Sullivans, in November 1976).
Bluey was different from traditional cop shows in that the lead character "Bluey" Hills was, to put it bluntly, a slob who ate too much, drank too much, and smoked too much. The story was that Bluey was such a loose cannon the police department set him up in his own area "Department B" and gave him the difficult investigations that other areas couldn't handle. (Just like UK series
Department S though obviously with different character types.)
Bluey wasn't a huge success and ended after 39 episodes.
Bluey was in the early 1990s re-voiced as "
Bargearse" - it is very funny and well worth looking up on youtube.
