I found a clip of a short scene from the 90's before the opening titles of EastEnders featuring Pat and Kathy here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKc3msFq4-w

I was just wondering how often do soaps ever do rare scenes before the opening titles or after the ending credits. I think scenes after the credits are slightly more common (e.g. EE Peggy saying her final bye to Pat) but they are both very rare. If not, do you have a favourite in particular?

(This thread may not be relevant to all soaps - I'm not sure if any soaps have a scene before the opening titles on a regular basis)

Hollyoaks have a scene after the end credits.

I like it when EE does them. Simon Wicks visiting Pats grave was lovely, as was Peggy paying a tribute in September 2013.

Wow thanks I don't ever remember seeing that before! Nice treat.

Simon laying flowers on Pats grave was after the credits.

Emmerdale had scenes after the credits for a little while.

Family Affairs always used to have a scene before the opening credits. From memory that is the only time Eastenders have ever done it and have a dream sequence in an episode.

Wasn't that the few short scenes from the last episode though? I seem to remember they did something like that.

Brookside did a 'Previously on Brookside' where they showed a few main snippets from the previous episode in their last year. And they began using dream sequences & flashbacks around this time.

Corrie do the extra scene thing during BGT week too.

Home & Away do it all the time - at the beginning they show a snapshot of what happened previously then at the end they do 'coming up' and show a snapshot of what's coming up.

That's brilliant! I want Tam to have nightmares about the Go Compare man!

I'd forgot all about this until I watched the link

Not including "Next times" or "previouslys"

In the first few months of the first season (1988) Home and Away had a scene after the closing credits. In the pilot episode they had a few scenes before the opening credits. They also went through a brief period of having scenes before the opening credits in 2006 when they played around with the format for a while.

I'm sure Family Affairs also had proper scenes (not recaps) before the opening credits. At least for a certain period.

Crossroads had an "after the closing credits" mini scene every episode

Hollyoaks did a scene just like this years ago. Zoe was having a dream about kissing her best friend Sarah's father Mike. After she woke from the dream the opening credits rolled. Then the whole week was her feelings for Mike developing until they got together.

Hollyoaks Later I believe have done an opening scene before the credits specially the last two series.

Hollyoaks have also done a 'Previously on Hollyoaks' just before the opening credits since 2010/11.

When Linda Sykes married Mike Baldwin in Corrie in 2000, they stuck a couple of extra lines of dialogue in after the closing credits. This is the only time I can remember Corrie ever doing this at least in recent memory. The episode is on YouTube, but clearly took the uploader by surprise as it cuts off before the extra bit

And the live episode a couple of months later opened with David Platt riding his bike in the street while Sarah told him to get ready for school, before the opening credits started, although they were mixed over the action so not strictly a separate scene.

Both Corrie's 40th and 50th live episodes had a pre-opening credits scene.

That is correct. They started out this way, then made the pre credits sequence a recap, then reverted to having a proper scene before the opening credits.

Take the High Road had a scene after the closing credits for the majority of episodes produced in 1990. The inclusion of the post credits scene coincided with the major revamp and theme tune change. 2 episodes before the end of 1990 production, they dropped the scene after the credits.

Family Affairs (at least the original series) also had a great thing where the closing credits were a potted version of the action of the episode, perfectly synced to the music and ending on the same reaction shot you'd seen around 30 seconds earlier

Not often, but that does keep the shows special

Think a lot of the US soaps have a full scene, or set of scenes before the opening titles.
