Cilla already had a three week number 1 with that song. Why not get a song of hers that perhaps never made it to number 1 to be at the top spot. Man In The Mirror and Back To Black were both bigger hits when Michael and Amy died, then they were when they were alive.

Why do we have to do this at all? It's just another weird thing that goes on these days when someone dies.

I suppose it's quite common for people to go back and listen to somebody's music when they die. I don't understand campaigns to get said persons music to the top spot though.

I don't see anything wrong with it. The music is exposed and so people are either buying it as new buyers or as a form of nostalgia.
Every musician would want their music to last for as long as possible and to stay relevant so it's fitting and also provides small comfort for friends and family to see the impact their loved one made.

Exactly the point I made in the Cilla Black for no. 1 thread. It's buying songs to make a statement instead of buying them because you like them.

The Cilla campaign is a TRIBUTE to her

this however would be unbelievable if radio 1 had to announce and play PlSSFACE https://www.facebook.com/pages/Get-P...688806?fref=ts
be great if it worked, a sex pistols for a new generation

It's just unnecessary, such a waste of time, she's died, people have expressed their sympathy, move on.

Thing is that it's a sad but true fact that the death of a celebrity or public figure generally results in a period of increased interest in that person.

Not always, I remember supporting RATM a few years ago in a campaign for the top spot. Nobody had died, but given the choice over a Metal Act, or a helium filled voice of an X Factor winner covering a Miley Cyrus track, I obviously supported the metal act.

I am not a fan of Cilla's music but if she stops those talentless twonks to the top spot, then bonus.

It's not a new thing at all, after John Lennon died there was a massive surge in sales; he scored three number ones and a number two! And that was actual physical sales, people going to their record store and buying the singles.

I think it is actually kind of sweet, it doesn't hurt anyone and it's a nice way to pay tribute to the person.

Theres something about how everyone gets behind a common goal and feeling a sense of achievement when they reach that goal which makes chart campaigns so attractive. I dont know what it is but a good chart campaign always gets me interested ha

A waste of whose time? That makes no sense and who are you to tell people that they shouldn't do this and move on? Strange attitude.

Did everyone rush to download some ground-breaking free jazz when Ornate Coleman died a couple of months ago?

Because he was someone who really deserved a tribute.

I feel George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, latter day Lee Perry, Little Richard, Rick James, Miles Davis and Sun Ra are/were more ornate than Ornette was ....

...but I completely agree with you.

Still, the masses are more enthusiastic about celebrity, charts and sales. If "Anyone Who Had A Heart" is to hit the charts it would be refreshing if it were be the far superior original by Dionne Warwick, who at least is still around to be able to appreciate it.
