Anyone know if the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will still be available for purchase at a reduced price once the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus are released in September 2015?.

I have the iPhone 6 myself like but just wondered if it will be discontinued next month like the iPhone 5 was or will it be like the iPhone 5s and remain available for purchase.

Would assume it will be unless they're releasing a 6C, the same phone as the 6 in a different case.

Tricky one, any other year I'd say that the 6 and 6 Plus will be reduced in price and remain but the screen size change adds in a variable. Apple know that many people still want the smaller screens and I suspect that they will want to keep the 5s and ditch the 5c (with the 5s becoming the 5c). I can't see Apple keeping the 6, 5s, 5c and 6s. But who knows? Around 4 weeks to find out....

I wonder how many iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus owners will get rid of their phones and upgrade next month if they are discontinued?.

Personally I think Apple should just keep the 6 series alone with the 6/6+ at reduced prices and 6s/6s+ as flagships and completely discontinue the 5s and 5c.

I certainly will NOT be getting rid of my iPhone 6 next month, infact I will probably keep it until September 2016 and upgrade when the iPhone 7 comes out. You will find most people always skip a generation of iPhones and the changes to the iPhone 6s will be minimal and probably the device will look very identical with only a very slight difference, if you look at the SILVER iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s the only difference is the fingerprint scanner replacing the "Home Button".

I agree with you here though, it makes sense for Apple to release the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus as the 2015 flagships and keep the iPhone 6/6+ (2014) at reduced prices and discontinue the iPhone 5c/iPhone 5s series from 2013. The days of 4" phone screen sizes are long gone and tbh if people desperately want a 4" phone screen size then they either should keep their iPhone 5c or iPhone 5s, or upgrade to them NOW while they are still being stocked.

In all honesty I can't see their being an iPhone 6c though as their have been no leaked renders, pictures or specs released. When the iPhone 5c came out in 2013 we knew by now what it would be like.

If the only criteria was what it looks like and doesn't take all the hardware changes into account you have a point.

I hope I don't offend anyone here but hardware wise Android devices are miles ahead of iPhones in all aspects. 99% of iPhone owners will tell you that they do only care about what the phone looks like and own an iPhone to be in with the "cool" and "popular" crowd.

I mean the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Sony Xperia Z3 are much better phones than both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus but tbh people would sacrifice hardware specs just to have an iPhone, hey I fully admit I am one of those people but I'd rather walk around with an iPhone than any Android device.

But why?

This seems to be the mentality of a few people i know personally as well, and i cant understand why nor seem to see the attraction to iphones.

They aren't anything special to look at, and i think the Z3 looks miles better and feels in the hand like a more premium device. Hell, even my Z2 feels better in the hand!

Not keen on the S6 either to be honest.

Yes - but, as iPhones seem to DO (well!!) exactly what 90+% of people want from a mobile phone just WHAT is the point of throwing in the kitchen sink and other unnecessary hardware (and that means you Samsung!)???

IOS works as fast as any android devices and with iOS 9 coming to 4s it shows that's Apple are supporting older devices, just got hold of a second hand 5s and will be keeping this for the future, supports 800 LTE and works fast and browser speed is great, got a galaxy s3 LTE but couldn't get on with it plus no lollipop update for that one:-/

But that is quite irrelevant, every head to head review shows that whilst on paper the top Android phones seem superior this isn't really seen in actual usage and testing. Somehow Apple seem to get their OS to work more efficiently on their hardware than the Android makers can do with theirs.

I was always someone who loved having the latest iPhone, but as I've got older I've got fed up. I really like iphone's, but I'm fed up of Apple and how often they release a new iPhone with hardly any major changes. I've got an iPhone 5 which I bought when it first came out. I bought it outright for about £700, and I'm on a contract with 3 that gives unlimited data, 2000 texts and 1000 minutes each month, all for only £13 a month and it's also on a rolling monthly contract so I can end it at anytime. If I wanted a new iPhone and wanted to keep my contract (which I would want to), then really I'd have to buy a new iPhone outright which I don't really want to do at the moment. My iphone 5 is in perfect condition, it's the 16GB version so holds everything I want it to. Since I bought my iPhone there has been two more models released and the only difference is the finger print feature. Apart from that, the newer models have nothing good enough to warrant me upgrading. I suspect I won't get another iPhone until the iPhone 8.

The price of the previous generation will only fall when the new iPhones are about to be released.

Pictures of the new iPhones cases can be found here if you want to believe it:

I will certainly be keeping my iPhone 6 the only thing it doesn't support is LTE-A but it fully supports VoLTE/WiFi Calling and 2x20MHz LTE which is all I need.

I was a long time android user and I agree with what people are saying in this thread Apple optimise there phones far better than Samsung/Sony/HTC can and that is what is the important thing for 95% of people.

Brand attraction - happens with a lot of products. People paying extra for a VW over a similar Seat or Skoda. Or designer clothes

Never understood the fashion accessory / prestige thing that some people like. It's an iPhone, made by the million, that looks and is no different to every other iPhone of the same model out there. It's as aspirational/luxury/prestigious/egotistical as owning a VW Golf or George by Asda clothing.

If you want real luxury and fashion above function, I assume Vertu are still around...

Vertical integration helps (since they design the CPU too), as does limiting what the device can do (I remember the hubbub over when the iPhone supported "multitasking", except it wasn't real multitasking, as apps were expected to save state and close - more resource and power efficient but not the most featureful)

I was making the point that George is common as muck, and so is the iPhone, really. (well, possibly not the 6plus 128gb, but in general)

OP having just spoken to pal who works at the Apple store in Edinburgh the staff in the shop are being led to believe that the iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will all be discontinued in September 2015 with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus as flagships and the rumoured iPhone 6c as the budget option.

He has said that this is unconfirmed and things might change but it is highly unlikely that there will be any iPhones from 2013 and 2014 being sold once the 2015 devices are released.

So what's going to be the big difference when the 6S and 6S+ is released?

I'd go along with Sirocco. Rather than have the new 6 as a competitor to the likes of the Moto G, the near 720p screen will become a 2K 1080p one.

You will be able to use this one in your front pockets, it will have 2GB ram, but still will not be waterproof. The 6c might just get 2GB ram too.

The new iPads will be the interesting launch, iPhone sales have not fallen of that cliff yet.

I'm looking forward to the new iPad as well i'm looking to replace my 4th Gen with a new one not that the 4th Gen isn't still good because it is but would like a new one to support the new iOS 9 changes.

Keep hearing about the iPAD Pro which is meant be launching this year should be interesting keep eye out for.
