They needn't have wasted their money his hair looked SO much better dry and wavy when he got washed up earlier!

I know I loved Ross's hair when it was curly! Really suits him

I don't think that the graphics were all that bad, it was just the very deliberate looking nosedive into the village hall that looked a bit silly.

It seems from pictures there's more explosions to come, I hope they repeat the crash again at the start of tomorrow's episode.

I've not watched Emmerdale in over 10 years but watched the video after seeing this thread. Not going to lie, I can't see the fuss. Looked pretty genuine to me.

There was nothing wrong with it, I've re-watched a few times and it's fine, very well done, especially on a soap budget. Surely people don't really expect Hollywood movie effects in soaps which have to be paid for all year round, not just throw everything they've got at a one off occasion?

I think it's drawn many comparisons to Brooksides helicopter stunt for obvious reasons but if I recall correctly the Brookie one was to see them go out with a bang and had a huge budget thrown at it. I don't think that actual stunt used any CGI and watching it back even now it's VERY cleverly done.

That said, it has already been established that this whole story arc was never about the actual stunt it was all about the aftermath (any of which we were are yet to see). So whilst I agree that the actual crash was a bit rushed and unimaginative it did serve its purpose, if we are to believe that this sets off further events causing more death and destruction and thereby bringing us more realistic and dramatic scenes which are more character focused / driven.

The episode was great. The graphics were awful. The drama/idea is gripping if not slightly silly (I feel if Hollyoaks did this than more people would be calling it stupid, and I hate Hollyoaks). It's a great story and has great dramatic intent but I feel Emmerdale have shot themselves in the foot a little bit only because of the much superior Brookside stunt 13 years previous that this would obviously be compared to! If that stunt had not happened than people probably would have been more accepting of this one and the Emmerdale fans excuse would be more valid.

No excuse. As terrible as the show is Hollyoaks actually crash a train. If they can't afford something, perhaps they shouldn't attempt it. There are many, many options for a disaster.

Mores the point why was flying so low? As a rule they fly alot higher so in the case of an engine failure they can auto rotate and land.

Glad they didnt waste too much money, they just needed to convey the premise not make us watch more naff chip adds to pay for it.

Go watch a Crap episode of Eastenders or corrie. Seriously no pleasing some people these days. Emmerdale is on top form. Unlike every other soap. Try and let yourself enjoy it at least.

Didn't see a problem with the effects/crash itself, but I did find Dan running into the building a bit silly; not because he shouldn't have tried to warn them, I just found the reaction a bit ridiculous... especially since he continued to run into the middle of the building instead of just standing at the door, telling everyone to get out.

Wasn't it flying so low as it was getting ready to land somewhere in the village? Pete had organised the helicopter for him and Debbie to fly away in after the reception.

The episode was very good, the CGI stunt was awful! I'm sure the aftermath will be good as well. Don't throw your toys out of the pram, it's pathetic.

Exactly. The episode itself was great, with the building tension and the affair being revealed. But then in the final moment the stunt actually let it down as it looked so fake and badly done. I keep seeing things about a "soap budget" but Brookside did a real (not CGI) helicopter crash over a decade ago so it's hard to accept that excuse.

didn't watch the episode but (and i genuinely mean this) i happened across the last 2-3 minutes when channel hopping. i've made a few enquiries as i have some contacts with the production company and i can exclusively reveal the helicopter cgi was created with this equipment.

Maybe this is why some of us criticise it.
There is an Emmerdale fanbase ( on DS at least ) who won't hear a word against it, even when it's storylines are ridiculous, it's acting is appalling,it's characters are annoying as hell or when proper research isn't being done into whether police/ medical procedure etc is realistic.
Other soaps get criticised for these things, too but no soap gets defended so vehemently and sometimes unreasonably as emmerdale does.
It's like the emperor's new clothes with some people.
