I enjoyed Missy's turn as the second companion last series, too.

I'm happy the show is returning to the spring. It should never have been moved in the first place. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

And in my opinion the move was never about returning the show to its "traditional autumn slot" but simply an attempt to cover up another production gap.

My only real regret, though, is that we have to wait until April 2017 for more of the same rather than a brand new start with Chris Chibnall.

I realise that can't be helped and Chibnall's probably taking over as early as he can, but I am wondering if I should just take a couple of years off from the show and start afresh in April 2018.

I was a little broken-hearted by how bad Season 9 was, particularly towards the end and I'm not sure I could cope with another season like that. Its like seeing a beloved pet slowly dying.

So 1 episode in about 16 months.

shush, garbage456. None of us is supposed to have noticed that because the BBC cleverly buried that bit of news by promoting the Moffat exit/Hello Chibnall story instead.

That's good news for you Mulett at least - you don't even have to make a choice this year.

Any Person of Interest viewers around here? Now there's a fanbase in dire straits.

I am pleased - its a double whammy for me because I'm pleased Moffat's going and I LOVE Chris Chibnall's work.

Its a shame the timing has worked out the way it has and we have to wait a year before another Moffat season before Chibnall takes over in 2018.

But for me, plenty of positives too. And the move back to the spring is a real bonus.

Please tell me if I begin to sound at all smug. I'd hate that

I think it was also partly because they knew Atlantis was very unlikely to carry on even before series 2 started so they used DW to fill the gap.

I wonder if His Dark Materials will take DWs place (not that I've read anything about when that actually goes into production)?

Pffft, that's nothing. I remember there being only one new episode in 16 years

I've not read the whole of this thread so I'm not sure if it's already been pointed out here or elsewhere but..... shouldn't we at least be mildly pleased that Season 11 (as a minimum) has been confirmed before Season 10 has even started shooting?

It demonstrates a commitment to the show which will by then have been in a continuous production cycle for 15 years. Outside of the soaps and Silent Witness (a show where the required suspension of disbelief is probably more acute than DW), there are few examples of such faith in TV drama.

I must admit, that the last couple of seasons have not, for me, been the appointment TV of previous years. That's not to say that I haven't enjoyed them. Just not as much as previous. I think a change will be good, perhaps a slight change in direction back towards a time where there was a true sense of danger and no big red 'reset' button all the time. Would be nice for someone important to, you know, stay dead (well, not nice for them) and, please, please, please, please, please won't someone do a TV adaptation of 'Spare Parts'..... that could be crushingly traumatic. I like the stories with horror and/or loss.... it makes the victories more sweet

It's more his other work I love than his Doctor Who, although I did enjoy 42 a great deal. Broadchurch is amazing and I enjoyed his Torchwood episodes too (apart from Cyberwoman).

The problem I have with his Who episodes is that they were all (apart from 42) written within the context of Steven Moffat's Doctor Who - using Moffat's Doctor and companions and within the restrictions of Moffat's story telling. In other words, I don't think a showrunner's episodes - prior to taking over - are necessarily an indication of what their own Doctor Who will be like.

For me, Steven Moffat's stories were also different when he wasn't showrunner. The episodes he wrote for season 1-4, during RTD's time in charge, are far more enjoyable than anything he's written since taking over.

So I'm not using Chibnall's past Who episodes as an indication of what season 11 will be like. I look to Broadchurch more as a demonstration of what he's capable of when he's in charge.
