Hope I am suprised too. Kate Oates has said that there is no point in killing minor characters nobody cares about. So I will take her at her word.

As long as it makes sense to kill off popular characters as long term it can be detrimental. Pat being killed off in Eastenders was a brilliant exit but the show hasn't been the same since
