How do Emmerdale keep secrets?
TLC1098
06-08-2015
Seriously Emmerdale seem to be the best at doing shock deaths mainly because it is never announced that an actor is leaving.

But the question is how do they do it?
If an actor is leaving one of the other soaps it's always leaked and spread around the internet but Emmerdale can keep everything tight lipped.

It would be great if the other soaps could do that.

The sad thing is that most soaps 'leak' things themselves.

Coronation Street is currently the worst for this with every single detail of most stories being released before the scenes have even aired. I can't remember the last time Coronation Street genuinely shocked me.

Both Emmerdale and EastEnders have realised that holding back on some details gives viewers more satisfaction. Corrie are stuck in the dark ages.

Eastenders and Emmerdale have both done it well recently.

To be fair they announced Val's departure so we had an idea she was going to die. the only departure we didn't know about was Ruby and she is a minor character so her exit could easily be hidden, especially as she has not been in for a while on a regular basis. And the reason we din't hear about Pete's 'departure' is because in all likelihood he has not left.

I'm sure Corrie leak things on purpose

Because Emmerdale doesn't have a big blabbermouth for a producer like Corrie does....

Don't you mean Ross?

I wish all the soaps would realize that spoilers are called 'spoilers' for a reason.

I don't everyone is convinced he's dead yet. I'm pretty sure this is a setup which, if it is, is pretty bloody good. There's being no interview explaining why Ross decided to leave from the actor nor has there been any interview from the producer explaining why she decided to kill him off. This has happened with Val and Ruby so i think we can be pretty sure that Ross will be back.

But Eastenders do it well too. Don't watch Hollyoaks but sounds like they do well. It's just Corrie that has lots of spoilers.

Even though Digital Spy and social media have confirmed it? Wishful thinking from Ross fans in my opinion.

They've confirmed what they've seen on TV. Social media is the prefect place to try to make a stunt like this appear believable. I'm not a huge Ross fan and don't care if he dies or not I just don't think he is dead. It's too obvious that he isn't. They've set IT uo perfectly too make it look like he is dead but they've also set it up to make easy for him to return.

Hollyoaks did it with the good Lindsay. It's a result of actors now having twitter as well as the producers chasing ratings I think that results in them ruining their own storylines. To get viewers they basically say this is going to happen now come watch it onscreen. I don't like spoilers at all yet sometimes I can't resist and then I have no interest in actually watching what I read

Stuart Blackburn definitely Wants waiting hence all the spoilers.

They might be double bluffing - making people think he might be alive so could return but it'll turn out that he's really dead. I don't like Ross but I'm not bothered one way or the other if he's dead. It's just a fictional TV programme.

Tbf Eastenders and Emmerdale can (I.e Kathy earlier this year), it's Corrie who fails at it, we know all about the bus crash.

Corrie fails at what?

I wish in general, they kept all departures quiet. Never announcing them. A shock exit like Ross was great to watch as a fan. But when you know Val is leaving, it's not rocket science to work she is going to die in helicopter crash. Especially when the two other female characters who are also set to leave are not even present at the wedding. The only shock of a character like Val dying is essentially how they die.

I wished they had never announced Lucy Beale's death. I think it would of been a fantastic shock and a treat for us to see that scene of Lucy lying death in the common without us knowing it would turn into a whodunnit. For that scene to have aired with no one knowing and then the eventual confirmation of it becoming a whodunnit storyline would of been ace.

I do agree. I don't know why actors' departures are pre announced. I suppose to give them a chance of getting work quickly? If EE had managed to spring Lucy as a surprise I do think it would have been a massive game changer. Similarly Jake Wood's departure meant it was fairly simple to work out who would eventually be falsely accused.

It has been very low key though. Especially for a big character like Ross. He's video on Facebook saying goodbye to the fans sounded very ingenuine to me. Like he didn't mean what he was saying.

if Ross really is dead then its a shame they would have an easy out should they chose to bring the character back in future, I felt he had more mileage left as the village bad boy taking over from Cain but so be it

Stuart Blackburn AKA The Hat has to go on and tell the viewers every cough and spit that is going to happen on Corrie. He was the same on Emmerdale. The man doesn't know the meaning of the word subtle. He spoilt Emmerdale and now he is hell bent on ruining Corrie. I would like to know how he still has a job as a producer.
