Had I been Stuart Blackburn I would have kept the Corrie fire until September time.
Mind you the actual fire was a bit of a damp squib.
I think in terms of Corrie being ITV's longest running and highest rated soap, it's only fitting that Coronation Street do a live episode. It's a nod to Corrie's origin, when it went live for it's first episode back in 1960. ITV was only 10 years old then, so the Street is definitely their most iconic show.
In terms of storylines and actual state of the both soaps, well no contest, Emmerdale is head and shoulders above Coronation Street at the moment. It's unfortunate that with Corrie moving to it's swish new location in Media City and with an upcoming live epiosde that the show is in one of it's worst states in recent memory.
That said, the numbers say Corrie is still number 1. This past Monday it stood a million or so ahead of EastEnders in the overnights and still maintains a marginal lead for the rest of the week. There will only ever be panic at ITV when Corrie consistantly falls behind EastEnders. Until then, once the numbers are better, then they are the best soap in ITV's eyes.
