Does anyone else think ITV should have asked Emmerdale to do the Live Episode over Corrie?

I've been thinking this too. No doubt Emmerdale would've actually had something special lined up rather than Corrie with the 'showdown'. I hate how ITV treat Emmerdale as a second rate soap compared to Corrie & Emmerdale is the far superior soap.

Why would they promote their second most popular asset over their first? Marvellous though Emmerdale has been this week, a routine week in Weatherfield has still attracted more viewers.

Showbusiness is showbusiness.

Emmerdale & Coronation Street should do a live episode the same night for ITV 60 anniversary. I thought at the start Coronation Street should not do a live episode they should do a big storyline.

Surely Emmerdale? don't give it to Stuart Blackburn.

Had I been Stuart Blackburn I would have kept the Corrie fire until September time.
Mind you the actual fire was a bit of a damp squib.

I think in terms of Corrie being ITV's longest running and highest rated soap, it's only fitting that Coronation Street do a live episode. It's a nod to Corrie's origin, when it went live for it's first episode back in 1960. ITV was only 10 years old then, so the Street is definitely their most iconic show.

In terms of storylines and actual state of the both soaps, well no contest, Emmerdale is head and shoulders above Coronation Street at the moment. It's unfortunate that with Corrie moving to it's swish new location in Media City and with an upcoming live epiosde that the show is in one of it's worst states in recent memory.

That said, the numbers say Corrie is still number 1. This past Monday it stood a million or so ahead of EastEnders in the overnights and still maintains a marginal lead for the rest of the week. There will only ever be panic at ITV when Corrie consistantly falls behind EastEnders. Until then, once the numbers are better, then they are the best soap in ITV's eyes.

It's about time they did a bloody crossover, both made by ITV and set geographically close to one another.

I think Corrie and Emmerdale did crossover once, many years ago in one of the Emmerdale video spinoffs.

I don't see what's to be gained from a full length crossover. It would be very contrived. I think having a darts match at the Rovers, or Weatherfield FC playing Emmerdale in a footie game or something would be good. But it being the central focus of an episode, I'm not so sure.

The EastEnders/Corrie crossover for Children In Need was fun, because it was for charity. It didn't need to be great storylining and it could take the piss out of itself.

They both should go live, one after another

I've declined to vote because while I think it's a nod to Corrie being ITV's champion show throughout the majority of it's life, Emmerdale is in the better place entertainment wise so they cancel each other out for me.

What would have been absolutely cracking is if we still had The Bill around. ITV could have made a night of it by doing a live episode of Emmerdale, Corrie and The Bill then.
