I wonder if Corrie will ever give her the break she's always wanted

Sally, the character, doesn't annoy me at all. The character thinks she's better than she is. She's easily impressed by what/who she thinks is upper class, such as the sofa which she hated until she found out it was a designer one, and having vienetta in the freezer. Fancies herself as not only being married to an entrepreneur, but being one herself. She's a snob, a real Hyacinth Bucket. Remember she's got a conservatory

But if she was a real person and I knew her, she'd annoy the hell out of me and I'd tell her exactly what I thought.

I think she's great and with Tim, treble it!

She is magnificently annoying, a character that builds herself up but always gets knocked down. She is funny and annoying all at once but I manage to have sympathy for her when her hopes are dashed, as they always will be. Its the nature of characters like that.

Sally never used to be like this but somewhere along the way she got a personality transplant and they have stuck with it.

When she first started going out with Kevin, she was quite the wild thing.

Partnering her with Tim was genius, it gave Tim more of a reason to be in the show than the dreadful Faye.

Tim is the best new Corrie character in years. He is my absolute favourite, I hope that The Hat doesn't screw up on this one. Tim and Sally inmho are brilliant.

That's the whole point, she's the butt of the joke.

Give me a character like Sally who has a personality over the interchangeable vanilla mob any day.

A comparison with Hyacinth Bucket was actually voiced
in one of fridays episodes! I have always found her very
annoying. Nothing against the actress who plays her,but
the CHARACTER, as she is being written...and as she has
been written for some years now!

This.

I was thinking that last night as she strolled down the street with Gail muttering on about Tim being "inefficient with the toothpaste", that's something the old Sally would never have said.

It was funny when she wanted Rosie to go to the posh school but there was still a realness to the character back then, a down to earth quality. It's like they saw the praise and decided they wouldn't write Sally any other way. The recent comedy award hasn't helped either as now every line's a gag while Tim has been turned into a buffoon to compliment her.

In effect she's as one dimensional as what Gail is and Deirdre was now, only she's not as stupid as either of those two characters. It reminds me a bit of Annie Walker but no one could better the way Doris Speed played it.

I think it's good that Sally is the butt of people's jokes, but ever since they decided she would be this way full-time much of the dialogue doesn't ring true. I wish they would knock the comedy/snobbishness off sometimes and show her as a rounded person. I think the last time that happened is when she had cancer.

Have not watched Corrie for ages, but tuned into watch a couple of episodes recently. Sally has become a bit of a snob, a comedy character now more than a series storyline. She is a good actress would like her to see her with a better storyline keep her with Tim, please don't have her have an affair with Kev.

I was about to make the same comparison, and I can remember people saying, "I hate that Annie Walker, she's such a snob" not realising just how brilliantly Doris Speed played that character. I still find Sally's character very funny, and she and Tim are really the only reason that I keep watching.

agree completely! I even think Sally the actress who plays her thinks she extremely stuck up and agrees that she is a working class person like everyone else!

The snobbishness is nothing new, neither the character being annoying!!
The way she pushed Rosie to be something she was never intended to be was absolutely appalling & the money she wasted insisting on her going to a posh school where she was unhappy because she didn't fit in!! Also when she was trying to force her into becoming an actress or singer when she was hopeless at both!! Helen Flanagan was actually really good as Rosie back then before she decided she was a 'celebrity' herself!!
The character of Sally was even more annoying back in those days, particularly since she made such an almighty mess of everything in her own life!! As a mother she was horrendous, constantly pushing Rosie while ignoring Sophie completely, no wonder Rosie turned out a complete airhead & Sophie a scowling misery with no ambition to do anything with her life!!
I have always loathed Sally as a character, and have never found snobbery funny or endearing in any way (I hsted 'Keeping up Appearances' for the same reason), however putting her with Tim who is the absolute polar opposite & who constantly kicks against her & puts her down without really using any effort has been a rare Blackburn masterstroke & for the first time ever I'm actually finding myself enjoying her scenes when she's with him!!
Still loathe the way she is in the factory & just about any other scene of her away from Tim though!!

Me. I find her character completely inconsistent. Snobby, stupid, capable, nasty, comical, carefree... Her character seems to behave however any given scene/storyline dictates.

I was going to edit my post as I realised pretty quickly this was the kind of response I might get. What I meant to say is that everybody has different facets to their personality but with Sally Webster their seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. The other night there was a scene between Gail and Sally (which I was I thought was good at first, as their friendship is often forgotten about) but it came across as Gail having a sly dig and then Sally giving Gail a filthy look and walking off! This was never their relationship. And Sally suddenly proclaiming Kevin as her rock when this hasn't been the case at all, for years, just to engineer a kiss and a bit of needless drama to Sally and Tim. Her character just doesn't ring true.

Many people in life are inconsistent maybe but they still mange not to annoy like Sally does,

I'm not even sure she is inconsistent actually as she's always been a horrible snobby selfish character. I still remember her affair with the Garage owner she worked for and her trying to have an affair with John Stape, all to better herself 'roll eyes'

She has no morals at all and will do anything to get money and supposed class. She's doing it now with Tim. She'd drop him in a heart beat to better herself and get Kevin

Nothing really, that was the point, but it is 'retro' which is sort of posh. You never know with Sally. She will never change as she really believes in herself.
