They may have quite a few stunts, but it is at least still very much character driven, full of emotion and impact. Nothing to do with this week, but take Laurel's alcoholism story, no big stunts etc needed but it had some of the most powerful and emotional scenes I can recall. It didn't just appear out of nowhere, and it didn't start and end within 2 weeks. It was well paced. This is what emmerdale does well lately, well thought out and well paced storylines.
Yes like all soaps, it's not all perfect and there are weak stories and characters, but for me the positives easily outweigh the negatives right now.
The only thing that would have made this week better would be if it had involved more of the cast. I don't mean having them all in the village hall etc, but have more of them appear after the crash/explosion.
Compare emmerdale to corrie right now and you will see the quality difference. Corrie is changing characters to suit stories, stories appearing out of nowhere and often not going anywhere, no real drama as such. Characters that no one would miss or get sad about if they died, unbelievable baddies like Callum prancing about having everyone scared of him, when Audrey could probably take him out.
A lot of the stories involved in this week's emmerdale have been building up over months and months, Debbie, Pete and Ross, Chrissie and Robert, Val etc and just look at how everything linked together and fitted so well.
With corrie we have the live ep coming soon and no real stories are developing apart from the dreadful stuff with Callum and David!
