Its just 1 contrived disaster after another, I don't even 'feel' anythin anymore for these stories.. Its gone beyond the point of reality, there's no balance. Corrie & EE have their flaws but they feel more grounded than ED. Why is every1 praisin Katie Oates?. ED seriously needs strippin back to the village farm life it once was ..

Oh lighten up OP and move on. It's one episode where people see things and do things out of character when people die.

I can't stand boring fart mentality.

I agree OP - KO does way too much stunts/explosions. Lol the week has been one big SOR... that bad helicopter crash and now this val thing tonight

1 episode r u ****in serious? Almost every story this year has centred on nothin but shock value in a cynical ploy to boost ratings. 'Lighten up' for what? U obviously like being bashed over the head with emotional blackmail. Less is more, obviously u don't appreciate that by ur stupid comment. U have the mentality of a Hollyoaks fangirl.

I agree too. Emmerdale needs to rewind a few years and get a producer that knows the history.

Agreed.

I thought the fact they weren't afraid to take that risky move was brill.

Chris chitell is really a great actor.

100%, this twitter generation r like 'OMG THIS IS AMAZIN!'. ED is relentless in force feedin us these ridiculous scripts. If it was 1 every so often then maybe i'd care for these characters but its not. The old eps of ED where more grounded & thus had more weight to its drama.

While I agree that Emmerdale is less grounded than say Corrie, it is still more reality based. I'd compare it to one of the more reality grounded US soaps like All My Children or Young and the Restless, they do over the top things but they all could happen in real life....its just highly unlikely.

The day Emmerdale jumped the shark. There would be threads galore on here if Blackburn did this calling for his head, he must be sitting back and thinking "What the hell has Kate Oates done to Emmerdale."

Generally, we don't watch US soaps, or have any knowledge of them

the past couple of episodes have been way too hollyoaks, however Emmerdale has been the best soap this year.
i dont think Val should have been killed off though, the faking death would have been a good storyline.

They may have quite a few stunts, but it is at least still very much character driven, full of emotion and impact. Nothing to do with this week, but take Laurel's alcoholism story, no big stunts etc needed but it had some of the most powerful and emotional scenes I can recall. It didn't just appear out of nowhere, and it didn't start and end within 2 weeks. It was well paced. This is what emmerdale does well lately, well thought out and well paced storylines.

Yes like all soaps, it's not all perfect and there are weak stories and characters, but for me the positives easily outweigh the negatives right now.

The only thing that would have made this week better would be if it had involved more of the cast. I don't mean having them all in the village hall etc, but have more of them appear after the crash/explosion.

Compare emmerdale to corrie right now and you will see the quality difference. Corrie is changing characters to suit stories, stories appearing out of nowhere and often not going anywhere, no real drama as such. Characters that no one would miss or get sad about if they died, unbelievable baddies like Callum prancing about having everyone scared of him, when Audrey could probably take him out.

A lot of the stories involved in this week's emmerdale have been building up over months and months, Debbie, Pete and Ross, Chrissie and Robert, Val etc and just look at how everything linked together and fitted so well.

With corrie we have the live ep coming soon and no real stories are developing apart from the dreadful stuff with Callum and David!

ED is amazing, easily the best soap on tv. Kate Oates has done wonders with it, she and the rest of the cast and crew deserve praise for continually rolling out high, captivating drama, which will no doubt continue after this week. The least watchable stuff on ED is still a thousand times better than the drivel on Corrie. ITV should stop acting like its the poor relation, it's way beyond their 'golden goof'. Keep up the excellent work KO.

Agreed but I think it's a 2 horse race between Emmerdale and Eastenders this year. Both are very well written and thought out storyline and are character rather than plot driven. Corrie is completely the opposite.

I will say that Emmerdale is probably the most consistent.

This what I've been saying, even though I really enjoy Emmerdale, there are things Kate Oates has done that if Blackburn did them on Corrie people would be calling for his head on a platter.

Judging by your posts you are obviously one of "this twitter generation".

People will give praise when it's due to be fair

Yeah but Blackburn gets criticized for everything he does while Kate Oates gets passes for some of her mistakes. It just seems like Blackburn is the whipping boy for some people

I thoroughly enjoyed yesterdays eps and am looking forward to the continued fallout, but from a point of view of how Cain, Moira, Zak, Robert, Chrissie, Eric and Joanie are affected. Characters that I enjoy watching and am interested in. Thinking about it, I enjoed these 2episodes because although there were stunts, so much of it was about family relationships - the scenes with Cain, Kyle, Debbie and Moira; and the ones with Val and Diane.

I really don't need any more heroics, relentless crime to the extent that its normalised, stunts or 'who dies?' headlines or over hyped relationships. What I hope to see is characters reacting emotionally and coming together to grieve, plus dealing with the legal consequences. THAT's interesting not Aaron or Debbie's latest affair. A bit of violence, crime, affairs and so on is fine but not multiple characters doing the same stuff purely because it's 'hot' and will make headlines

I agree that ED is consistent & has great humor but there's far too many stories that are far-fetched. Tragedies happen at break neck speed; Paddy suffocates, gets shot, ross dives into a 50ft river-survives-gets accidentally killed by his brother.

Then we have an explosion which shoots a canister into a conveniently passin helicopter which crashes into a wedding. Thats just the tip of the iceberg from the last 2 years.

They've had an electric year.

For every sensational stunt there's been a million grounded, hearfelt, 'real' moments.

I'm a fan of ED and only watch this one soap- the val ghost scene went on too long and may have worked for me if at the end David had shaken Eric awake and he'd realised he'd nodded off and dreamt it. As it was; personally speaking for me, just ridiculous. I know it's a soap but don't take the mickey out of viewers.

I agree with other posters regarding the pacing too. It's break-neck speed and needs slowing down. It's been like this since Cain had his headaches/braintumour/operation/recovery/ forgotten all about.....Over about 4 days worth of episodes!
