Shayne ward ( soon to be corrie former X factor winner) is a gay icon still very popular with gay men always voted in like top5 fittest polls in things like gay mag attitude and plays lots of gay prides. His popularity may have dropped off with most of general public but is still adored by gay men. Me, I'm one of those people.

Amanda Vale on H&A, had she stuck around a bit longer could have been a gay icon. She was such a camp villain and her storylines were great , as was Angie Russell.

On the subject of US soaps, Felicia Gallant on Another World looks like she was camp as tits. I'd imagine she was beloved by the gays back in the day. She looked like a female Liberace with her penchant for giant fur coats and dramatic headwear.

I knew that. I was just puzzled as to why Liz McDonald from Corrie was considered 'not even close', when she seems to me to fit the description at least as much as most of those who have been named.
Elsie Tanner: the ultimate 'survivor'. Fierce, outspoken, but still incredibly feminine and sexy. The ultimate soap gay icon IMO.
Bet Lynch: for obvious reasons, namely her propensity for camp and razor-sharp wit.
Angie Watts: the shoulder pads, the hair, the dramatic pauses. Fabulous.
Sharon Watts: the reigning Queen of Camp. Seriously, some of the side-eye looks she gives are drag queen worthy. Loved that episode where she plotted her revenge against Phil in the summer of 2014 - the closest we've seen to 'real Sharon' in years.
Dot Cotton: June Brown is a bit of a ham but I think that adds to her appeal. Dot's had a pretty horrible life but again, she's a survivor.
