Tonight Val came back from the dead for a goodbye scene with Eric and I've seen so many negative comments about it I just had to make this thread.
Firstly, people deal with grief in many different ways. How people come to terms with the loss of a loved one is entirely down to them as long as it gives them a sense of peace. I know personally many people who believe in spirit guides and reincarnation. Many people like to believe in heaven too. Pardon Emmerdale for thinking people would understand that Val wasn't really there and it was just Eric's way of coping!
Secondly it's important to remember this isn't the first time this is happened in soap so for a little history lesson, free of charge, here are a few examples ranging from touching to bat shit crazy.
Jack Sugden watches his family mourn his loss at his grave (2009??). 3 minutes and 10 seconds in
Marlon talks to Tricia on a park bench while she is actually in a coma and he has to decide whether to let her go or not - January 2004
Jack's final dance with Vera in Corrie 2010.
Bobby in the fridge in Home and Away - mid 90s?
Hayley sees Ken's ghost in home and Away - 2000/2001?
I'm sure there's many more but these are the ones off the top of my head.

that cringey helicopter and now Val's ghost.
Wouldn't Eric have freaked if her ghost suddenly appeared. Eric was clearly imagining Val and imagining the conversation and the best way of demonstrating that was showing us Val.
