The Ratings Thread (Part 65)
Solid ratings for Emmerdale last night. Shame it wasn't a little bit higher but at this time of year pushing 7m was always going to be tricky - especially when it hasn't topped 7m once this year (yet).

Stunning rating of 1.81m (10.0%) for Cricket on 5 last night, rising to 2m (11%) with +1 included. The slot average is 497k (2.6%).
Live coverage of the day's play secured an audience of 489,000 (6.2%) for Sky Sports 2. |

The One Show returns on Monday, only 30 minutes on Wednesdays now.
Songs of Praise from Calais will be broadcast next Sunday on BBC1. |

Not really felt the need to catch up on EE this week. It's gone very average again very quickly. Just like last year, I don't think there's been enough to really justify saying they didn't shut up shop all summer. They just actually put in a real effort for a couple of weeks. |

Emmerdale's share was fantastic. I'd imagine the rating was dented by the Cricket.

It's been a long wait, but we've finally got a new thread!
On ratings, Corrie was quite low and EastEnders did ok. As I said, Emmerdale did well considering it was up against the cricket and it had a good share. |

I recall you made the same comment on TOS last year and the year before, in the summer the Wednesday night TOS is always 30 mins , and extends back up to the hour in about eight weeks.

Thanks for reminding me. An hour is too long, they often have difficulty filling 30 minutes with decent material. An interesting guest is usually cut off in favour of a film about potholes......

Based on quality alone Emmerdale deserves the rating over 6m.
ITV need a serious wake up call, and for some reason this has not happened with Corrie. Viewers are still torturing themselves in their droves. |

Corrie ended the week 1.15m down from its high on Monday.
ED (the warm-up act for Corrie) was down 0.78m from its high on Wednesday. ED's average share (though good) would have been higher had it not been for the clash with EE. To maximise the audience, they should have done the hour long episode on Wednesday and put Corrie on Thursday at 8.30pm. ED doing all this in August is a puzzle. They thought they would be overshadowed by Corrie Live in September, and overshadowed by Rugby in October, so they decided to be overshadowed by GBBO's return in August instead. Although well received by its fans, I'm sensing a hint of disappointment over Emmerdale. EE down only 0.44m from Monday, so quite a good week for them. Terrible for BBQ Chump. |
