Interesting that the ITV soaps have good shares and EE pretty poor share, so all the soaps not benefiting at least last night. I know its sacrilege on here but EE was great last night as well.

Life In Squares is another poor performing BBC2 drama. What has happened to them this year? I also see no logic in putting drama up against Sherlock repeats. Silly BBC scheduling.

EastEnders was very good but the rating was poor. It deserves to be higher, personally I think if they ran a few trailers every so often it would help them.

The soaps seem stable again with decent ratings, although Eastenders does seem to drop to a similar level for it's Monday and Friday showings. Perhaps 8pm just isn't a fit for the show. A reduction in the number of episodes would work wonders for the quality but it would be seen as an admission that the show isn't working - which it is. We know how the reaction would be viewed. It would be interesting to see two hour long editions of Eastenders on Tuesdays and Thursdays with something different in the Monday and Friday 8pm slots.”

Leave EastEnders where it is

Kathy makes her return to Albert Sq next Monday which could see a rise.

Special mention to Doctors. Good rating and share at 1:45 in August.

If you don't promote episodes you don't get viewers.

Have to agree, think Ben Stephenson went to America at the right time. His last lot of commissions have been very poor.

Another daytime failure - I imagine Hello Campers, Guess This House and Freeze Out will follow suite.

Its good they are trying out many different daytime series, but its scheduling that has let them down. Mel & Sue could have worked, but 3pm would have been a better slot. But it seems they really are not that popular.”

Add Jo Frost, The Speakmans and Auf Wiedersehn My Pet to that list of dire daytime flops.

Unwise to make assumptions based on that.

We're talking about massively different demographics here. And an entertainment format vs a chat show i.e. personality led. You can invest in one without being a fan of M&S but not the other.

Meanwhile Corrie has another trailer currently which is advertising Paddy McGuiness' guest role, as "Corrie goes camping".

BBC1 hasn't had one great drama yet, this time last year we had Happy Valley. BBC2 has had Wolf Hall and Banished then nothing that has been anywhere near as successful. Lacklustre doesn't even begin to cover it.

With the Lucy plot back at the forefront of EastEnders you'd think there'd be a trailer for it, instead you get nothing. Compare it to Coronation Street where there have been trailers for less eventful weeks as well as big event weeks, there's one for the camping week.

Promotion is something that ITV gets right for Coronation Street. The BBC could learn from that.

New four part series Stephen Fry's Central America begins on ITV on Thursday 27th August at 9pm.

Weird that this is on ITV after his previous America series was a success on BBC1.

That's a disappointing rating. At least Odyssey has held up okay, I thought that would be a bigger flop than Life in Squares. Personally though I think the biggest story to come out of BBC Two this summer has been the failure of Family Guy. The audience has simply not moved across.

There's big gaps in the data, but there's enough available here to see the extent of the decline:

Season 12 - BBC Three, Sunday nights at 10pm and 10:25pm (Summer 2014)
Episode 1: 1.51m
Episode 2: 1.60m
Episode 3: 1.25m
Episode 4: 1.49m
Episode 5: 1.30m

Season 13 - BBC Two, Sunday nights at approximately 10:15pm (Summer 2015)
Episode 1: 1.07m
Episode 2: ???
Episode 3: ???
Episode 4: ~0.87m
Episode 5: ~0.87m

Source: BARB (consolidated ratings)

I'd estimate from what we've got there that FG has lost around 36% of its audience since moving to BBC Two from BBC Three.

It's clear from this that whilst BBC Two is roughly four times more popular than BBC Three overall, the more significant factor at play here is the massively different demographics - BBC Three might be a go to channel for 16-24s but they could go days without really watching BBC Two - and so on this evidence BBC Two will have a tough time absorbing BBC Three content successfully.

That and 'Hair'. Both have seriously struggled in their new slot, both down from their BBC three series.

It will be interesting to see how Family Guy does on ITV2. Will it follow The Xtra Factor on Sunday?

Top Gear driver The Stig has landed his own show after BBC1 ordered Saturday night motoring format The Getaway Car.

The 12 x 60-minute series will air in a primetime slot in 2016 and is to be produced in-house by BBC Production. It will be fronted by former host of The X Factor Dermot O’Leary. Broadcast reported that the BBC was piloting the format in March.

The Getaway Car will feature pairs of contestants, including married couples, grandparents and grandchildren and brothers and sisters, as they take part in a series of “hilarious” driving challenges before attempting to beat The Stig to win a cash prize.

The show was commissioned by BBC controller of entertainment commissioning Mark Linsey and BBC1 controller Charlotte Moore. It will be executive produced by Andy Rowe, series produced by Emma Taylor and overseen by head of formats Clare Pizey.

It will be distributed internationally by BBC Worldwide.

BBCW’s genre director of factual entertainment and entertainment content Tracy Forsythe said that the format had the potential to become an international hit.

“With an iconic character from one of our biggest global brands already on board, we know audiences everywhere will be curious to see what’s under the bonnet of The Getaway Car,” she said.

This could do well for them. A big commission with 12x60 episodes.

Family Guy will get higher ratings then The Xtra Factor these days.

At least BBC1 are still trying to find some some hits for Saturday nights. What do you think? Hit or hit with a silent 's'?

There's probably a half decent quiz show in there somewhere if it was tweaked but viewers don't give anything a second chance these days so there is little point tweaking it, in fact I expect most didn't even give it a first chance and just watched Pointless instead.

Doing something to generate a number of points which a question is then worth, is no different to many other quiz shows. Wheel of Fortune, Bullseye etc.”

I suspect your right. The audience automatically default to Pointless when The Chase goes off air.

But when a show is good, like Judge Rinder is might start at the lower end as JR did, but then grow throughout its run. Then you know you have a hit. JR started with shares around 14% I think then gradually grew to over 20%.

20:30: Jekyll and Hyde
21:30: Jonathan Ross?

Interestingly, if does end up there it follows the 2007 Steven Moffat BBC reboot which also aired on a Saturday but it depends on the tone of the new jekyll in how late its going (could also be swapped with XF if its family friendly enough, the Rugby could help it more than it'd help XF tbh) It would have to have a double episode or the finale on Boxing Day for this one to work however”

That would be a good schedule. I don't think it would do well earlier in the evening as I think its too dark for 7ish. Giving it an XF lead in would be the best option as its likely to have the biggest viewership and young age skew.

BBC1 has had some very good dramas but I don't think it has had one yet that makes me think BAFTA winner. The one that really stands out from the crowd and makes you think wow.
