Yeah, with hindsight 9pm is all wrong for football highlights. They should be a post-pub affair.
There's a lot to be said about the football league highlights following Match Of The Day. Early evening at 9pm on Saturday is very competitive.

Football League Tonight is actually a better programme than The Football League Show in my opinion, but as you say the timeslot is wrong, there are frequent and incessant adverts and people don't want to stay in and watch football highlights on a Saturday night.

Corrie's Live episode trailer has been released. It is rather cringeworthy in my opinion but it will generate some interest. It focuses on the Callum storyline as Callum chases the Platts through the street:

John Barrowman's Small Animal Hospital To Receive Primetime Slot on C4.

The show is to receive a new primetime slot this autumn.

The original series will be re-versioned as three one-hour episodes and given a new title. The current working title is Pet Hospital.

Not too shabby considering availability is a real problem with this channel at the moment.

It was amusing when ITV scheduled The Premiership at 7pm, displacing Blind Date, with Lynam making much of the supposedly better timeslot. Better for him, no doubt, but the ratings crashed and in due course it was moved to 10.30. If September shows little uplift, will Channel 5's highlights scuttle off to midnight?

New Radio Times has when things are on bear in mind they are oddly clearer when BBC shows are on than ITV drama

An Inspector Call BBC1 September
The Go Between BBC1 September
Cider With Rosie BBC1 September

Thats a lot of Drama for BBC1 where are the going to fit it all

Capital BBC1 Autumn
From Darkness BBC1 October
The Dress BBC2 October
The Last Kingdom BBC2 Autumn
Game Changer BBC2 September
Jaekyll and Hyde ITV Coming Soon
Midwinter of the Spirit ITV Coming Soon
Unforgotten ITV Coming Soon
Donton Abbey ITV Late September
The Returned C4 Autumn
The 3 BBC dramas at the top of your list plus Lady Chatterleys Lover are all one off features though and The Darkness is only 4 eps/ Doctor Foster 5 eps and Capital 3 eps so its not as much as you might think. Can only assume those classic one offs will be Sunday nights.

Was not the Leagues justification for giving the contract to C5 the earlier timeslot though?

I think you're right, but then the Premier League were probably equally enthused by ITV's promise to schedule in peaktime - until they saw the ratings.

I watch it on my PVR early on Sundays so the scheduling doesn't really bother me.I seem to remember the BBC version was getting 800,000-900,000 even following MOTD.

Some impressive demos for episode 1 of this series of Bake Off in Broadcast.

It achieved 7 million/57% of ABC1 adults and 2.8million/59% of 16-34s.

Is that from BARB? That's without HD and +1 I'm assuming.

ITV firing off all cylinders, what we all like to see.
Not great but Doc Martin and Downton Abbey will make that look a bit better. Does show how much the soaps prop up ITV. Looking at the BBC1 chart and news bulletins help them out across the week.

I watch it on my PVR early on Sundays so the scheduling doesn't really bother me.I seem to remember the BBC version was getting 800,000-900,000 even following MOTD.
BBC One's ratings superiority over the commercial channels isn't news. And FLT isn't doing that badly compared to the BBC version, according to your own ballpark figure. As BBC One is roughly five times more popular than C5, you would expect FLT to have lost more than half its audience.

The fact it hasn't suggests the earlier timeslot has helped to an extent, but not enough for it to be a success. Move it post MOTD and the figure would fall to around 0.2m-0.25m no doubt which is something they might consider towards the end of the contract if things don't improve but surely not this early. Better to give it more time and work on improving the product in line with viewer feedback.

What has been most depressing about the failure of FLT thus far is the way this news has been gleefully received on here. If you're massively pro BBC you can't really spin it as testament to the power of being on that channel as the gap between the two programmes is smaller than it should be, so that doesn't work. As with all risks taken you win some and you lose some, but it's better than staying the same and not trying anything out of your comfort zone which is why TV in this country has become so stale. If it doesn't work, which looks very likely now, it'll soon end up back on everyone's beloved BBC, and people can get back to just leaving it on in the background after MOTD, only half watching and then moaning when the Beeb can't be bothered to do a show for Leagues One and Two only.

Dancc, I'm not sure I buy this idea that when a property moves from BBC One to Channel 5, the benchmark for it should be the old audience adjusted for the lower channel share. That may be fair for, say, a generic factual series on a particular topic, but we're taking here about an identifiable brand, albeit not a stellar one in non-top-flight football highlights. When Neighbours moved channels C5 was less than 30% the size of BBC One in terms of share, but noone expected the audience to fall by 70% and of course it didn't (in fact it only fell a few hundred thousand at first).
