BBC1 hasn't had one great drama yet, this time last year we had Happy Valley. BBC2 has had Wolf Hall and Banished then nothing that has been anywhere near as successful. Lacklustre doesn't even begin to cover it.

You appear to have forgotten Poldark which was more successful ratings wise than Happy Valley and I think you are being particularly unfair to BBC2. Wolf Hall was one of their most successful dramas and this was followed by Banished which did well and these ran consequently until mid April. Then we had The Game and Stonemouth both of which had respectable ratings as has Odyssey since. Far from a lacklustre performance for BBC2 drama.
With BBC2 I mentioned Wolf Hall and Banished. Banished rated very well and they axed it. The Game's ratings weren't great, going sub 2m in consolidated. That didn't happen with Line Of Duty, The Fall, Peaky Blinders or The Honourble Woman. The Game is one of BBC2's poorest performing Thursday dramas, Life In Squares has also collapsed. Stonemouth did well but hardly a vintage drama. I think BBC2 has been lacklustre so far apart from Wolf Hall and Banished, the ratings certainly have been. |

Thanks for the round-up Lewie.

Does anyone have the consolidated averages for the three big soaps so far this year compared to last year? Would be interested to know.

One more thing about BBC2 drama.
Odyssey gets a decent 1m, doesn't timeshift much and was beaten by Humans. Odyssey was also axed in America and won't return. The Game was commissioned by BBC1, shunted to BBC2, didn't rate very well and was axed so won't return. Banished was a hit, got good ratings and BBC2 foolishly axed it so it won't return. Recent BBC2 drama acting more like Channel 4 drama of the last few years with low ratings. Lacklustre. |

BBC2 was set up originally set up for low ratings stuff that appeals to audience that doesn't like mainstream content, Also they need to move more young adult stuff across as these pesky viewers of BBC3 aren't getting the message yet that the channel due to be axed. That disabled season could of aired on BBC2 at 22:00 if Newsnight is moved to 23:00.

A shame there isn't like, you know, a third BBC channel that doesn't have to have in-depth news coverage when young people are watching TV ![]() ![]()

Good to see Emmerdale continuing its ratings bounce following last weeks big week - and ahead of EE again! Corrie down week-on-week - but still respectable for August. Quote:
Meanwhile Corrie has another trailer currently which is advertising Paddy McGuiness' guest role, as "Corrie goes camping".

1. Move Emmerdale and extend the Tuesday episode to an hour and air Corrie 7-8pm (thereby avoiding a potential clash with GBBO) OR... 2. Leave Emmerdale and start Corrie at its normal time of 7.30pm and hope BBC move Bake Off to 8.30pm as a clash would be extremely damaging for both shows. What's the betting that if ITV manage to avoid a Bake Off clash - it will still be Bake Off that tops the night overall. I wouldn't bet against it, that's for sure. |

Newsnight is a bit of a sticking block in the BBC2 schedule. I just can't see it being 'politically possible' to stick it on the News 24, I suppose it'd lose viewers and impact. Bumping its time so it doesn't follow (more or less) BBC News at Ten on BBC1 isn't an option. And there's an opt-out for Scotland there too.

Looking forward to seeing how Bake Off fares tomorrow, if it rises, falls or remains flat.
It's been in the papers a bit this week, with controversy over a contestant who allegedly did a cupcake course in Paris and had a cupcake business on the side. Could draw some extra viewers. |

A belated thanks for these. As has been pointed out, some pretty poor summer figures given the small number of channels.

I don't know which will hurt them more. I think it would be better from 7:30 to 8:30 as it will have an Emmerdale lead-in and be in its normal slot. It would also have a head start on Bake-Off. It would definetly beat it but I don't think it will hit the highs of #EELive week. Clash or no clash. It's clear from today's press preview that it's in response to EastEnders Live episode and just another stunt to gain back viewers that have been lost during Blackburn's reign. |

Has anyone from the Ratings Thread been put in charge of play-out at BBC One Wales, because we were treated to a Holby/New Tricks menu followed by two minutes of blank screen during EastEnders tonight.
