I know that it is no true indication, but if the figures are that high now and continue through out the run, we could see a live final figure over 11 million. People will want to watch and not be spoiled by friends, family and the media.

I guess I will have to watch it on the Wednesday rather than Sunday morning in bed

If it's Winter it'll be from January next year surely?

The overnights for last year's final were over 12m. How many watched live I wonder?

Including iPlayer and the BBC One repeat would push that figure to near 13m which is frankly ridiculous at any time of year, let alone August.

I can see a drop tonight due to the weather, possibly down to the low 8m region. Last year's second episode dropped too so it wouldn't be a big story if it happened, although I can see a few outlets having a dig if a fairly sizeable drop occurred.

Fans of EE (such as myself) could let last night's figures speak for themselves :
EE 5.86m
ED 5.81m

Or, even better, they could try using these :
EE 6.32m (inc. BBC3)
ED 6.01m (inc. +1)

ED fans would prefer to go with these :
ED 6.01m (inc. +1)
EE 5.86m (excluding BBC3)

Alternatively, ED fans could say it's the share that matters :
ED 34.4%
EE 32.4%

EE fans could say that EE's share is 11.6% higher than last Tuesday, but ED's share is only 1.2% higher. Or that EE is 2.7% higher than Monday, but ED is 1.3% lower.

ED fans could do a y-o-y comparison :
ED 5.47m/31.1% , EE 5.67m/30.5%

They could say that, compared with 2014, ED is up a by a "huge" 0.34m and 3.3% share, whereas EE is up by a "paltry" 0.19m and 1.9% share.

Isn't spin a wonderful thing?

Well I thought Bake Off was eventful tonight, especially considering some newspaper reports about people being expert bakers and frontrunners. Two talking points in two weeks. Will it generate more ratings?

Last year the overnights were not so reliable because of Scots/NI opt outs so many of those figures were over estimates. NT this year so far is probably doing a bit better although whether that will last now that Waterman has gone remains to be seen.

Is it too early to say that I'm not enjoying Bake Off as much as last year? The bakers came across as more likeable and had a bit more personality. Maybe I need to give it a couple more weeks before I judge it but I remember instantly loving it last year.

That was an incredible coincidence wasn't it.

The "trained" baker who was "star" baker last week is the one who got booted out this week.

Great British Bake Off is the TV equivalent of what social media is to the internet.

Really?

I'm enjoying this series a lot already. Quite a few characters, nobody is hateful and we had Dorret's disaster in week one and a shock in week two!

I think it's very funny especially considering how newspapers were trying to spin Bake Off as fixed. Well they didn't see that coming!

The papers are jumping on the back of something popular to try to boost their own fortunes.

They think by running a Bake Off story on the front page based on some tenious non-story more people will buy the paper. Whether it works or not is another question.

We've seen it before with other shows, most notably with The X Factor. "Exclusive: Cowell does what?, quick lets buy The Sun" readers may say.

Of course at some point the papers decide that said show is too popular and needs to be brought down a peg or two.

The amount of press coverage X Factor generates is ridiculous. I wonder how some papers would fill their pages in the Autumn if it wasn't around.

The 2nd ep of Great British Bake Off drew avg 8.9m (peak 9.6m), slightly down on launch (9.3m), but well up on ep 2 last series (6.9m)

Overnights.tv ‏@overnightstv 1m1 minute ago
#GBBO stormed on with 8.9m/41.8% for second ep (biscuit round) @LoveProdHouse @PaulHollywood http://www.overnights.tv

Small drop but still a brilliant rating, should comfortably timeshift to 10m. Another brilliant share too.

#EarthsNaturalWonders won the 9pm slot for BBC1 with 4.4m/22.6% @BBCScotland @PBS http://www.overnights.tv

Last week Bake Off had a 43% share, so only a slight change for the second episode but up a massive number from the previous series
