Yes those last two came back on song for the program. But by that time it was in need of a rest. Many fans of the program always howl about it being axed but it needed to be axed. It needed the rest so it could come back and win the next generation of viewers.
Controversial opinion but I think it needed to happen. It was never really properly axed though. It appeared on red nose day not long after I think and then the TV special in 96. And the radio and merchandise carried on.
It was a clever resting, and thanks to Lorraine Heggessey she fought hard with BBC worldwide to make a series.
Its a tactic that the should have employed with Top Gear, maybe not so long but a few years off, let the dust settle, let the memory fade and the nostalgia of the best bits to shine on.
It actually did better than most programs against Corrie i think.
