Well, it's 240k up on the excl +1 of the day before so that'd decent. Should be around 1.50m with +1. Maybe we could see a bit of a higher +1 figure due to last nights events?

To be fair, I'm less concerned about the series, considering the first four BARB timeshifts for the first week added on between 450k-550k.

Very good figure (by recent standards). Shame ITV's petty games will soon knock it.

But not bad for a show that is supposedly vulnerable eh? (In reality CS and ED would also suffer a dip if EE started at its usual time before them and ran for one hour over their slot, yes ITV would probably adjust their scheduling so it didn't happen but the point is if they didn't CS/ED would similarly suffer, it's not exclusive to EE)

Controversial opinion but I think it needed to happen. It was never really properly axed though. It appeared on red nose day not long after I think and then the TV special in 96. And the radio and merchandise carried on.

Programmes have to justify their existence, I liked Doctor Who then but with low ratings it was no surprise it was axed. Needed new thinking, writing and a decent budget. I blame the BBC for the budget problems but every other problem was down to the show.

It is a shame when they do clash, and fortunately we live in a time when pvr's and iplayer can pick up the missing viewers. However without some competition the soaps would slowly stop trying to gain extra viewers. Competition is needed for a healthy broadcasting community and for the viewers.

Looking at ratings on the night Bake Off is bringing in a load of extra viewers that aren't watching Corrie so it will be fine. Also I'm not sure Corrie Live is such an event that people will be rushing to watch it. BGT week level ratings probably.

Critics love Parks and Recreation more than viewers. Can't get an audience in America or here. Always had limited appeal.

If Corrie live does go out at 8pm (just who is thinking that is a good idea) then the +1 figure could be quite large. However the new drama at 9pm would then suffer as 10pm on +1, especially on a weekday is too late for some to stay up.

However a live 7pm showing and a double Emmerdale on the Tuesday would be a better choice.

The old style UK Gold was great, they went back to the 1970s regularly for comedy plus late night and Sunday omnibuses of Doctor Who in The Vortex.

It was quite enjoyable for a series or so as it was quirky. But like a lot of other impressive quirky shows (Wonderfalls springs to mind) the twee factor rather works best in a limited run and after lots of episodes it becomes rather meh.

Fawlty Towers would have gone the same way had it run for 5 years and had lots of episodes.

Quirky is an acquired taste and one that most palates tend to prefer in moderation.

Parks and Rec was never a solid performer but has critical acclaim which is why it lasted all those years. Its viewers are very hardcore ones!

Weirdly enough S1 of the show got a mixed reception, all the following got critical acclaim.

There has been a lot of discussion on other threads about the Star Trek situation.

It seems odd at a 50 year anniversary there seems no TV show in the offing and some say it is down to a secret deal which gives the movies a free reign whilst they are being made.

Apparently the rights situation is confusing but I would have thought that a streaming service (Netflix, Amazon) and/or Sky might have wanted to put together something as a niche audience would suit something like that.

Just seems odd that one of the iconic TV shows that existed in the 60s,70s,80s, 90s and 00s is not going to have anything out there for a 50th anniversary.

Are US TV politics to blame or is it purely the cost versus the inevitably modest audience that was declining a lot because of over saturation during the 80s/90s/00s with multiple series and movies coexisting.

It still has a huge fan following with fan made episodes involving stars from the old shows and even plans by one of then to fund raise 12 episodes a year of a new series - the first episode of which is already out there.

I can see that making sense. Parks and Rec also took a series to settle. And other shows like Hill Street Blues and St Elsewhere (whilst more conventional had their quirky side) also came close to getting the axe early days.

Seems as if these shows need 2 or 3 series to work as the first one has to win over the audience to the potential. Then probably should call it a day.

Though ratings are always going to dictate those decisions - especially in the USA - even when sometimes maybe they shouldn't.

One show that had a shot of doing this and the network saw it and tried everything to get it to series 2 was Now and Again. It just could not get to that series 2 when, if it had, I believe it would have been remembered as a classic. They stood by it in a way that was unusual for US networks as they obviously saw what I did in it (the spark of the Moonlighting creator). But the ratings won the day and axed the show.

That is a problem, but rather that than have headlines the next day saying how low the Corrie live episode was. The newspapers would compare it to the Eastenders live episode. It all seems a bit bonkers to me, just quite why ITV would throw away something like Corrie up against Bake Off. It's a beast of a show that maybe in its autumn years couldn't hold up against Corrie. But it is just too soon to test it.

I'm assuming that the fan series is Renegades. I haven't seen it yet, but possibly a Saturday evening very soon might be given over to it.

When you see how the BBC treated Doctor Who, I do find it surprising that we have no special Star Trek for their anniversary. With the third film coming out the following year it all seems a little strange.

Does Abrams have that much of a hold over the franchise now that he will not allow a tv version to appear, even for an anniversary ?

It's not really. It's what some like to think. Last night was the first Monday showing since all the schools have gone back and Holidays are over and look it's right behind first corrie,400k behind second Corrie and nearly a million in front of Emmerdale.
Tonight it will be dented due to England and Thursday due to Emmerdale but we should see figures back up for the promoted Friday episode.

It doesn't sound like SB is going anywhere any time soon which is odd as he has been there more than 2 years and it's not like his era has been a success story.

The Corrie Live trailer doesn't do much to entice me as a viewer. If you're a fan of SB's crappy tenure and like the interminable David/Callum saga then it's perfect but I can't see it holding much appeal to the more discerning (casual) viewer.

Yes! Not the full 2 minute trailer but the Kathy one ''10 Years I walked out on my boys....'' it clearly states ''This Friday @8pm'' too which is unlike the BBC much of the time as they usually just say ''This week''
