New C5 series The Yorkshire Vet made a fair start (1.11m/5.6%) but still finished last in its slot behind BBC Two's Hairy Bikers (1.76m/8.8%) and C4's Battle of Britain (1.64m/8.2%).

At 9pm C5 was second behind BBC One with Celebrity Big Brother (1.50m/7.4%) ahead of ITV, C4's Educating Cardiff (1.39m) and BBC Two's The Gamechangers (~0.97m).

C5 and #CelebrityBigBrother came 2nd to BBC1 in 9pm slot with 1.7m/8.2% http://www.overnights.tv”

I'm guessing that's with +1. Very good to see it hold up fairly well from the 1.8m the day before. Quite surprised to see it come 2nd in the slot.

Educating Cardiff being hit by CBB I'd guess as both have similar audiences. I for one haven't watched EC this series apart from the first episode, as CBB has been on.

Very poor for The Gamechangers, it should time shift well though with word of mouth as it was a very enjoyable show.

Out of the 3 he has done... last nights one, Mission Survive and The Island, it was the latter which ended up rating more despite being on C4.”

Incorrect. Mission Survive averaged a million or so more than The Island is coming back for series 2.

Dreadful rating for him last night though. A pity as it was actually quite good. Would have fitted better at 8pm though.

Convenient assumptions I'm going to make about The Gamechangers:

1) It failed to rate because it was about a video game. Even though gaming is a hugely popular past time in the UK.
2) It will add far more than usual on timeshift with viewers catching up via iPlayer on their games consoles !!!

A few others of note:

* ITV's new series Parking Wars began with 1.84m (9.1%) exc. HD and +1.

* Sky1's new live darts themed gameshow One Hundred and Eighty, presented by Davina McCall and Andrew Flintoff, made an OK start with 0.21m (1.1%) at 8pm.

* Dave Gorman's: Modern Life is Goodish, now into its third series, performed well for a Dave original at 10pm with 0.38m (2.6%).

* It may have performed weakly where it mattered most but EastEnders' repeat on BBC3 was the most watched multichannel show on the FTA channels with 0.70m (4.3%).

Did It? I thought the Island was getting mid 2m throughout and MS got low 2m. Woops.

Ok if its true what people say that ITV is using Emmerdale as a tool to dent Ee ratings (at the expense of ED as the ratings show) I just don't see the logic? Yes ITV want their soaps to be top dog but do ITV not realise EE is going knowhere in the near future? This is a soap that's been going for 30 years now, it's the BBC's flagship soap, they have already stated they are building a brand new EE set so its future looks secure. ITV need to understand they are not going to take the BBC's soap off the air anytime soon, unless major happened to the soaps performance. Still if anything bad did happen to EE they would do anything to turn its fortunes around and still if that didn't work they would just move EE to say a teatime slot. I don't get ITVs way of thinking if it is true the soap clashes are just a way to destroy EE?

Bear Grylls is a thoroughly overexposed talent these days. Between Discovery, Channel 4 and ITV, it feels like he's never off the telly.

The rating for last night's New Tricks is conspicuous by its absence too.

I think it's more about holding EE back to increase the gap between it and CS making the latter look good.

Do we have the full rating for ED with the HD and +1 rating?

Sounds like a touch of the Clarksons on Bargain Hunt. One of daytime TV's most popular shows. Not the first time they've had to change a host.

Because CS can't do that on its own? Has it lost its way that badly? Whichever way you look at it, it's desperate.

It's fairly obvious that Emmerdale is being told to come up with ever more OTT story lines by ITV. Unfortunately for them, history shows that audiences tire of them (see Brookside). I've also heard that there are writers leaving the show in protest; if that's true, Emmerdale has bigger things to worry about than being thrown into a constant soap head-to-head …

Not that EE would be troubling Corrie anyway.

Because I've always been "see both sides of the story" kinda guy, couldn't you say in itvs defence they need ED hour longs on Tues and Thurs for the 8pm lead in as corrie not on? The way the BBC use the ever so popular early evening hit "the one show" hour long specials on Wednesdays as EE is not on and it doesn't have another evening soap like ITV to hold onto the audience for rest of night?

Storylines on EE are more contrived. Back from the dead / half square knowing about Bobby / add on similar % are criminals who wander around unpunished.

The previous Tuesday clash - ignoring the early start for the football week, Emmerdale had 5.61 and 29% with 223k on +1

Eastenders had 4.56 and 22.2%

So fairly stable for both shows.
