Looks like the second hour was what helped X Factor. Not that 7.5m is bad of course.

What's being prerecorded got anything to do with this? The fact is that despite its first proper Strictly clash + being 2 hours XF had its highest Sunday and that should be celebrated.

If XF only won the post-Strictly slot, surely that indicates that Strictly won the head to head - and probably by a decent margin, given that I wouldn't count +1 numbers when looking at the raw head-to-head battle. Strictly is starting airing 15 minutes into XF's broadcast time, so I'd say that's a pretty good result. Even that 15 minute head start (and XF attempted to keep hold of their audience by not airing an ad break for nearly 25 MINUTES!) didn't seem to help them.

It'll be very interesting with Strictly v Rugby next weekend, IMO. England are already out, and so that's a bit of a 'dead rubber' match. Only the really dedicated fans will stick around ITV for that one! The 6-chair challenges on XF are proving interminable as usual - 2 hours is just a deathly slog to get through! And they're just going to keep churning them out over the next few weeks, with little variation on the 'audience baying for blood, judges pretending to agonise over choices, and making the contestants cry' routine they've got going! Strictly results - even pre-recorded ones - are far preferable to that!

Wait did Countryfile beat the X Factor from 7 to 7.15pm?
Presumably it did with viewers tuning into strictly early and the breakdown for ITV including +1.

Now don't go implying that not only was TXF beaten by Peter Andre but also something about the countryside - you will give Simon a bit of a headache

To say there's not a crossover between strictly and the rugby is absolutely ridiculous. International tournaments like football, rugby, tennis and cricket bring in a huge amount of 'glory hunters' who would never normally watch.

X Factor could have got around 7.9/8m if it wasn't for the Strictly clash, I think.

7.5m across 2 hours for a part of the show that everyone seems to "hate" and find "negative" is very decent.

I'm not convinced, I think Strictly helps XF, not hinders it, two of its biggest audiences have been when Strictly clashes, so people are watching TV and wanting a bit more LE (although XF was the opposite of light last night) so tune into XF after it- On nights when there''s no strictly, Xf has been struggling- Although brilliant for SCD to retain its audience, even when engulfed by a mammoth XF-

Quality and ratings numbers don't necessarily correlate!! XF is popular - always has been, no matter what they stick in each show! It does remain to be seen just how much '6-chair-challenge fatigue' the audience is prepared to tolerate - there's 2 more weeks of the same, and then more judges houses, with only the live Top 12 reveal being genuine 'must see, can't miss' TV, because that's the only show that isn't thoroughly spoiled beforehand.

There seems to be increased interest in Doctor Foster ahead of the finale. Quite a few people I know are rushing to watch the first four episodes to get ready for the finale. They don't want to miss out on the next day conversation.

With increased interest and following the Bake Off final it could be over 7m in the overnight ratings.

I think without the clash x factor might have scrapped a victory they be over the moon with them ratings a 2 hour show was always going to be hard had it been on a hour it may have done better.

Paging Hassaan - 19:00-19:15 for BBC One and, if he can get it, ITV exc +1 please

I think it actually quite likely that period was above even ITV inc +1 (6.12m).

Slightly disappointed that the rugby didn't get higher figure than 11 million peak. 20 million would have been hoping for too much, but I thought 15m would be achievable.

ITV have got to hope that England pull off the win against Aussies next week. Maybe we can get one of those homer refs to give every decision to England, like New Zealand got in RWC 11 final against France

Regardless of the result next week, I'm not sure ITV wlll get a bigger Saturday night rating for the rest of this year. Even if England somehow got the final, the stupid 4pm kick off will not get massive ratings.”

Overnight ratings do still matter for Doctor Who as it makes up a large chunk of the final rating. The lower the overnight rating, the lower the consolidated rating. DW is safe as it's a cash cow.

With Ireland and Wales in the Rugby World Cup quarter finals that's some good news for ITV. If there was no home interest, ratings would have fallen off a cliff. The football World Cup is a different beast in that respect.

So X Factor that is apparently dead in the water is very near Strictly, but the Strictly fans excuses already coming through such as, 'SCD is recorded', 'XF had head start' etc.
