I have recorded this to watch on Saturday but that doesnt help ITV as i will skip the ads

Quite funny on STV's facebook page earlier they are showing Paul O Grady for the love of dogs at 11.05 and were encouraging people to set there planners. Take they get it so cheaply that they dont mind if people dont watch the ads

I'm pleased to see POG Dogs trending. I'm hoping its done well. It didn't get much promotion though.

Incredible rating for last night's Bake Off.

I certainly think it's got another couple of years with high ratings ahead. Hopefully they don't change anything and bring in similiar characters. By similiar I mean, they were all nice people this year. No drama, no conflict, no arguing. I find it really refresing to watch such a "nice" tv show. That's clearly a huge part of its appeal and, aslong as that continues, I think the ratings will stay high.

Great rating for Doctor Foster too. It gained momentum week after week, it was a brilliant drama. Hope they don't go down the series 2 route though.

Northern Ireland have qualified for Euro 2016. Looking increasingly likely that all the home nations (and ROI) except Scotland will qualify for next year's tournament. Should be a great one and it'll be interesting to see the draw and split of the home nations matches between BBC and ITV.

Hence the arrival of male-skewing entertainment instead. It would have probably done far worse on a Saturday because it would have alienated a lot of the female audience. Also as well it wasn't a shiny floor thing, it was more light factual than anything. Certainly not like the few crap quizzes they've shown there.

As for people not wanting LE there, I think that's wrong. I want good programmes any night, I don't care what genre is. If it's good LE it'll work any night. The LE on Tuesday nights has flopped because it's been crap, like everything else in that slot. As I always say, no viewer remembers what's on any night. They certainly don't remember ITV is always crap on Tuesdays, they remember what they've watched, not what they haven't.

If you were to look at the ratings for The Interceptor, Our Zoo and the half dozen other dramas the Beeb have shown on Wednesdays, you could say it was ridiculous for BBC1 to show drama at 9pm on Wednesday because people don't want to see it there. And now one's just got eight million there.”

I don't agree with that. I think viewrs are not used to watching ITV on Tuesday. Why else would Lewis be under 4m even against NT? In 2013 it got over 6m against the BBC1 comedies. Even on Friday last year it was higher.

ITV have killed Tuesday's. Even IAC dips on Tuesday compared to Monday, then rises again on Wednesday.

If ITV put Midsomer of Tuesday instead of Wednesday, would it do as well? No unlikely.

The years of putting unatractive stuff on Tuesday for so long has stopped viewrs from really checking out ITV on Tuesday. Ratings each year in these slots have dropped to new lows. In 2012 we used to say 2.5-3m was low for ITV Tuesday, but now its dropped past 2m to 1.5m.

Fantastic rating for such a simple reality programme. No judges tantrums, no fake publicity, just good old baking.
Never seen a single episode but I applaud its success.
How long till its on Whittingdales target and must be given to SImon Cowell

A great night for the BBC and well-timed - although now expect that idiot Whittingdale to rush to the defence of his commercial bum chums and argue that the Beeb shouldn't be "doing popular shows about cakes or popular dramas about adultery". He's such a mendacious tool.”

The corporation cited Britain's most popular TV show, The Great British Bake Off, as an example of what it said was its ability to turn a diverse range of subjects into national events. The show’s final on Wednesday evening attracted 13m viewers, making it the most-watched programme of the year.

Part of the BBC's submission today....

Quote:
“The BBC said on Thursday in a submission to the (Charter) review that its role in the media should not be simply to compensate for market failure, providing content that was not produced by its commercial competitors.”

More people watched Bake Off than voted for the Government and the SNP.

3 reasons and not linked to Tuesdays:

1 - Ratings are down generally, so Lewis was unlikely to be rating on a par with its performance 2 years ago.

2 - You may not like it (as you constantly seem bemused by its success), but NT is the more popular show, hence why it's easily won its slot for 9 of the last 10 weeks (only beaten by international football) and pulled in well over 5m in the overnights.

3 - Lewis may have simply run its course and isn't the draw that it may once have been.

I agree with Steve, the average viewer isn't going to boycott ITV simply because it's a Tuesday. They are going to look at what's on and decide whether it's worth watching. If ITV put decent content there then the viewers will come.

So then why does IAC drop from Monday to Tuesday by more than 1m, then rise back up on Wednesday?

I am not bemused by NT success, but it has done better this series having faced nothing from ITV. Last year against Grantchester it was dropping to low to mid4m.

Yes I agree if ITV put decent programmes on Tuesday viewers will come, but nothing bar drama has done remotely well in the 9pm slot (bar IAC). The Bear Grylls series last week was good factual, but did poorly because it just did not capture the viewers interest.

So if ITV put Grantchester on Tuesday at 9pm, would it do as well on Monday? Over the series it might start to grow as the weeks went on, but woulnd't be as high.

Viewers are simply not used to watching ITV on Tuesday. It has been barren for so long. Double factual, followed by double factual.

Two separate articles in The Sun today both praising the BBC for making GBBO - what is the world coming to ?

The thread for Unforgotten is the most positive I've ever seen for the first episode of a new drama I think. I don't anticipate it doing too well last night but maybe it can hold or even grow from where it started.

Didn't get chance to pop in yesterday, but absolutely amazing ratings for both Bake Off and Doctor Foster. I predicted Bake Off almost on the nose but Doctor Foster really surprised me. Wonder if it'll come back?

So when do ITV launch their Celebrity Kitchen ? Eight celebs battle it out each week making a variety of cakes and pies - sponsored by Greggs of course.

You know it's coming

My gut feeling as to whether Bake Off will improve next year? No.

Every show has its roof and I do think Bake Off must be close to hitting it, if it didn't do so last night.

I don't see Bake Off as a show that will be on TV in five years time, and I wouldn't want to see it continue with different judges if either Mary or Paul wanted to call it a day. However, whether Bake Off is now a brand in the BBC's eyes that is now exploitable like Strictly, we don't know.

I do however find it bonkers that we still don't have a Christmas Special.”

What I find bonkers is they don't have the final on Christmas day, that really would get 20m

That will disappoint The Sun as they are claiming this morning the Xfactor finals will have 6 judges with him and a big name pop star as the extra judges heh

Lots of good reviews for Unforgotten. I heard good things about it so was surprised they put it on Thursday. They want to bring Doctor Foster back but I think it should be left alone.

You know what these channels re like. A drama does well even as a one-off series and they want to bring it back. All of them do it, not just ITV.

Suranne Jones said it would be best left alone as a one off too in an interview. So if the lead isn't up for it, I doubt it will happen.
