Looks like ratings are delayed.

Becoming a more and more regular occurrence that I didn't watch any TV last night, only tune in for the big shows now. Anyone else?

Most people tend to be changing viewing habits, even tv still is a draw for viewers. I uses series link more and more. Started watching CS more with the current storyline, watched EE last night. I mostly watch E4 at the moment, they have a good mix of comedies.

No, it's just you.

Series link is a godsend!

The only soap I watch is EE and I haven't even seen it this week, because I haven't felt like I have to, like years gone by.

E4 is a go-to for us too, TBBT and Gogglebox repeats are all series linked.

My gut feeling as to whether Bake Off will improve next year? No.

Every show has its roof and I do think Bake Off must be close to hitting it, if it didn't do so last night.

I don't see Bake Off as a show that will be on TV in five years time, and I wouldn't want to see it continue with different judges if either Mary or Paul wanted to call it a day. However, whether Bake Off is now a brand in the BBC's eyes that is now exploitable like Strictly, we don't know.

I do however find it bonkers that we still don't have a Christmas Special.”

Why?

Bake off will be on as long as Mary and Paul & Mel and Sue are willing to do it. The format is strong and focuses on the contestants and doesn't really need tinkering with.

Only way it will decline is if the format changes dramatically or there's more than 1 series a year which will decrease the appetite for GBBO

I agree and that is also the reason why the BBC shouldn't do any Christmas edition of the show. 10 editions a year is more than enough and leaves the viewers wanting more

Don't know they could bring everyone back to do a Christmas bake for charity.

Would it feel right at Christmas though? It feels more of a summery show hence the fact it starts in August and finishes early October. Any later in the year and it would just feel out of place.

They could bake a big Christmas pudding, rename Mary as Merry Berry and wrap Sue in tinsel.

To add to the effect, they could have fake snow outside which gathers on top of the roof and the tent collapses in under its own weight and the cakes get squashed.

I think a spin-off on BBC Two with maybe the top three, Mary and Paul doing a series of bakes would work at Christmas. 5x30 minute episodes over Christmas week could do well.

Some sort of show on Xmas Day wouldn't be overkill and would also draw in viewers who don't normally watch but may be curious to see what all the fuss is about.

At the moment the Christmas Day evening schedule is full of programmes that have retreated into their core, year round audience hence the underwhelming ratings - there's little to entice the casual viewer looking for a break from eating and drinking.

I love the concept of escaping from eating and drinking by watching a show about baking cakes !!

Yeah, even just use a Christmas Day slot and condense the series I wanted into an hour show. Get Paul, Mary, Nadiya, Tamal and Ian in and do that, surely it's worth a go?

And more importantly, it's something different on Christmas Day. I'm bored of the same old programmes every year on both of the main channels.

In 2013 we had the Christmas masterclass episodes which aired on BBC Two and I think they worked quite well. They could remake them for this Christmas on BBC One with the top 3 appearing and assisting Paul and Mary maybe? This type of show would have to be before Christmas though.

GBBO at Xmas?

The lack of range in programming is the thing that is turning people away from regular TV viewing, the last thing the BBC should do is more of the same at Christmas.

It's short-term gain, long-term pain.

People can't get enough of Strictly can they?

I don't want any of them though.

Possibly because there is little else on.

However I am looking forward to the return of Nigella with all the sexual undertones associated with cooking - slut spaghetti anyone ?

I believe there is a Christmas edition of her new show to come.

See, ITV can actually get good numbers when they put out good programming.
