"Bouncing back" to still being 500k down YOY.

DW up by 700,000, but the rugby match was dead rubber and only of interest to the the more committed fans. I think with England out and the knockout games mostly being played in the afternoons, DW will probably show another rise next week. Indeed after next weekend, all of the world cup games are in the afternoon, allowing TXF to return to Saturday nights.

If I were the BBC I would slip SCD back a bit to say a 6.45 start, it can't go too late re recording of the results, but they could accommodate that.

Thank you, Proves the few negative comments here re DW loosing " casual viewers" is not true, and that 2% is minor against two million viewing on catch up.

Any comment on the Strictly rating Simon?

You firstly predicted SCD to be in trouble if it was below 8 million, - proved wrong now.

Half a million live + two million on catch up, is bouncing back, - by definition, is not lower, not falling, not static, the English dictionary would say bouncing back is the correct use of words.

I think dictionary corner on countdown would describe XF falling from its ratings in past years as, off a cliff,

It's a quarter-final, will be interesting to see who's in it.

The last time that Doctor Who got 21% of the audience was for episode 10 last year when it received 21.6% but that figure was for 5.03 million viewers.

So whilst it may be down 430k viewers this year, you could perhaps suggest that viewing figures are down around a similar number of 500k across the board - based upon share of course

Good for SCD though it felt like a long 2 hours. I wonder how many (if any) advertisers cancel on itv for these dead result sports fixtures - the spot rate must plummet for a pointless game. Arguably the core audience is still worth chasing.

For reference Who in 2014 at 19:30 faced half an hour of The Chase then The X Factor.

Yes Celebrity Chase which had 4.2 million viewers.

It makes you wonder if ITV should run a few more of those again.

To be fair there's no doubt that Doctor Who is performing poorly this year.

Next year's break is pretty timely - and a lot of things need to be looked at before it returns.

Unless you ask a Whovian. "Best ever, no problems, everything's fine, no need to worry etc..."

It more than passed the crunch test, then. Good show last night.

They filmed a load of them last month, I reckon it'll go in one of the pre-X Factor slots once the rugby is finished.

They just love the show - so it's understandable.

I don't watch it avidly anymore - whereas in the Tennant era I did not miss an episode. Whatever you say about RTD and the soapiness of his writing, he knew how to bring in the viewers. He also knew when to quit, something which the current showrunner needs to think about.

I don't actually think the show is bad now, it's just inaccessible - it should be able to overnight above 5 million with a 9 million lead in from Strictly.

That's good

I do like The Chase, for me it feels at home on a Saturday night.

I took always voting every episode in every poll in the top as "Best Ever". You can't reason with Whovians - I've watched the show for decades and can, thankfully, discern the good ones from the bad, Nu or Classic. With many of the hardcore they will not admit any of them are failures so how can you believe them about anything?

Using Doctor Who's rating and share, I calculated the total TV audience to be about the same as the equivalent episode last year during its slot (around 20.5m). However it was almost an hour later this year, nearer the usual peak viewing time. Total viewing later in the evening was depressed by no X Factor and a poor-rating replacement.

Episode 10 which you cited was at 8.20pm on 25 October and the total TV audience during its slot was over 23m. (The X Factor had started at 8pm.)

Played all my Cards on GB worked out the Rugby World Cup quarter finals.

South Africa V Wales-Saturday 17th October
Australia V Scotland-Sunday 18th October

Both 4:00pm kick offs

The winner of France V Ireland on Sunday plays Argentina at 1:00pm next Sunday and the loser plays New Zeland at 8:00 next Saturday night.

So Ireland could be at 8pm next Saturday depending on results.
