No. They're the both same: both equally daft propositions. Quality of a sit com has no relation to a) how many episodes were made or b) the gap between when they were made. There were 4 years between series 1 and 2 of Fawlty Towers - which by your reasoning must mean series two wasn't up to much. Wrong, of course.

Are we all talking about different Nan specials here? In 2009 "Nan's Christmas Carol" aired but we've had another special since then in January 2014. If I remember correctly the latter was rather well received with many wondering why it had been scheduled so bizarrely in the BBC One Xmas schedule that year.

Christmas Eve

19:30 EastEnders
20:00 Still Open All Hours
20:30 Sherlock
22:00 Catherine Tate’s Nan

Boxing Day

19:00 Billionaire Boy
20:00 EastEnders
20:30 Call The Midwife
21:45 Catherine Tate’s Nan”

Xmas Day will be exactly the same unfortunately, albeit in a slightly different order.

Oh I forgot about 2009. That wasn't great either. Just doesn't work as a standalone character imo

I bet he wished he behaved himself whilst at the Beeb now. His iTV 'performance' is down more than half on what he was getting at the Beeb. Being on iTV doesn't help him of course. I speak as someone who always watched (and enjoyed) his Friday night show.

And some posters like to pretend others are doing anything different to what they are in simply speaking their mind and voicing an opinion. Can I help it if my natural air of commanding authority lends such powerful weight to my words?! ”

I would suggest your commanding air of self importance is the problem.

I agree. It was fab-u-lous darling. I still have it 'saved' on my YouView box. I watch it regularly.

I think there will be a lot of ITV staff cheering on Ireland right now.

There losing 17-20 but there is still 30mins to go

I hate spoilers! I've found a few I didn't want to find recently.

At this moment its not saying much for the Six Nations which might suffer a slight hangover of interest.
Every turn of the dice though against ITV who now have an even less attractive 3rd/4th place play off to broadcast too.

Scotland the last home nations team left standing at England's World Cup, how did that happen

Quite. After two years of endless debate over whether Call The Midwife should be on Christmas Day, I refuse to get drawn in this time

This entire tournament couldn't have gone much worse for ITV, really. Just needs New Zealand and Australia to go out in their semi-finals to cap it off.

I think you probably can forget them, after about 5.45 today.

And yet the viewing figures are still very much respectable and the demos will make it all worth it for them. ITV will have been well aware that the home nations could all go out early.

The one consolation for ITV is that these matches at the business end are all outside primetime (save the third-place play-off), something that would have irked them, had England progressed.

An Englishman, a welshman and an Irishman walk into a pub.

The scotsman was still at the Rugby world cup - for now at least

Presumably the other three were on their way to Euro 2016.

Even the most rabid BBC supporter couldn't blame ITV for England's failure in this tournament and it's sheer bad luck they probably won't have a home nation in the last two stages. It makes you wonder, though, if England fare badly in the 6 Nations for the first two years if ITV might hand it back to the BBC.

I think what BBC have done with the 6 Nations rights goes down as probably the worse deal ever done or even contemplated.

It was just so expensive (£3m a match or so?) it was a no-brainer to share the Six Nations with ITV and keep it off Sky/BT. I wonder if it will pay commercially for ITV though. Presumably it's still about £3m a match, but there are fewer matches on one channel.

Extended trailer for ITV's Beowulf: Return To The Shieldlands: http://t.co/4nA7bEQiRq

Really interested to see how this does. It's a big departure for them and 13 episodes is a massive risk. It looks like it would be a better fit at 8pm or so than the 6.30pm slot Jekyll & Hyde is launching in. I posted a link a while back saying what ITV expected from it (4.9m viewers apparently which seems very specific, I presume they were talking about a series average). It's a risky show though.
