I wonder how the semi-final of BBQ Champ did.”

I saw a few minutes of BBQ Champ and even by ITV's standards it was appalling. If i had stumbled across it on the Food Network, I wouldn't haven't been surprised (although I love a bit of Ina on there)

With BBQ Champ are they just cooking lots of meat? Is there much variety?

No major improvement for Ripper Street, below 2.93m as it didn't make the top 3. Don't know if it dipped again yet though.

The part that we saw had the judges saying to a contestant that the salad took away some of the flavour of the meat - which to me, just looked like meat done on a bbq. My response to the tv was "no s**t, it's a salad"

No surprise then. It must get samey watching people cooking meat each week. Alison Graham has a point.

To be fair they probably had a point. Who'd want salad when there's a big juicy piece of meat there?

Yeah I think there's something in that. Although to be fair they do seem to have tried to shake it up a bit. I saw some of last week's and they were doing desserts and some of them were quite inventive. Clearly though it hasn't worked. I think there's something very British about baking and BBQ-ins doesn't have that about it. Although personally I'd rather eat the stuff cooked on BBQ Champ than the stuff on Bake Off, it isn't just about that and Bake Off is a much better produced show.

Either my app is wrong or Gardeners' World was down a lot on last week to no more than 1.70m, it's not in the top 3.

EDIT: Yep, DS confirms 1.68m. Some odd ratings last night.

What a fantastic cast. Filming next week for broadcast in 2016. I imagine this will go out a similar time to last years. Around March/April

Thank you for the ratings NeilVW and for the round up lewiep93. A fairly uneventful night all round by the looks of it.

Mountain Goats isn't faring too well after the news. I watched the first episode on iPlayer, and I think it's hilarious! Really funny. I hope word of mouth helps the show pick up a little bit.

I read on the listings last week the contestants had a go at making decadent desserts. Still, it's a pretty one-dimensional format.

Thanks Neil

The weakest of the Comedy Playhouse and the BBC pick it up for a full series only for it to die a death after its 2nd episode. 'Monks' would have been better.

ITV pushed into fourth place at 9.00 and BBQ Champ being beaten by a million by a GBBO spin off. Also Flockstars continues to struggle around 1.5 million as that tired and overkilled ITV format of let's get some second rate celebrities to do something unusual makes people turn off. They really have lost the plot this summer and seem totally dependent on their two soaps( which mercifully have rallied a bit in the last month).

Cheap junk to fill a schedule on a channel that has given up in the summer. Every summer ITV churn out the same rubbish that struggles to get 2 million viewers. Surely sticking on drama repeats would get similar ratings for less money. It also means they have to rely on the ailing X Factor to be a success and with the RUWC meaning some moves for this show, it could fall even further this year.

At least ITV are *trying* with new shows, they could have stuck on repeats.

Depressing night for BBC1 all round and only the resilience of Coronation Street stands out on ITV. I suppose the benefit of its 11 soap slots per week really shows at times like this-imagine the shares if there were only two Streets and three ED's!

Solid as a rock for Corrie last night exc +1. Those are pretty decent Friday ratings for August. Looking back (and excluding BGT week), that second episode rating is it's highest Friday rating since 3rd April (when Faye gave birth).

A shorter series of Casualty. Although, there's nothing to stop another series starting in six months' time.

Original writer is back, too.

Extra Slice would do better on Wednesday immediately after show. I've got Extra Slice on record and pick it up over weekend but it loses it's relevance/appeal as an adhoc half hour a few days after show.
