I knew X Factor would rate like that. No Saturday shows for weeks, judges houses, down year on year anyway (the Saturday JH show last year only got 7.3m). Still very poor though.
We always have to keep some perspective regarding saying 6 million plus audiences being poor (especially over 150 minutes) however given all that's gone before in XF history I think will definitely be a little "eek" moment in the Cowell household. The performance shows element have been faltering in recent years anyway and they will come under more pressure next Saturday and it may well be a fully fledged "Voice" effect to follow. How much are people bothered about who wins etc. We will see.

Strictly does incredibly well to maintain the levels it gets -largely because they give people what they want I guess and don't mess around all that much. It helps that enough celebs consider it a prize to actually appear on the show and the warmth just flows out to the audience-even when Bruno comes out with colourful language . Definitely into its stride in the last two weeks.

X factor could have lopped 40 minutes off the show last night by cutting out all the crap with the begging, asking other judges help, random countdowns, finished at 945pm and probably posted a stronger rating

They've only themselves to blame
Chop Two hours off, it might be better.

From 20.45 people were switching off XF that shows how bad it was. Those who switched on, gave it a chance, then switched off. More and more will not be back. SCD can get ten million so no excuses .

XF was dull last night and it's good that it's reflected in poor ratings so that they won't repeat it again. All this trying to reinvent the wheel is just not worth it.
Great for SCD and rightly the top Saturday show.
Last night's show felt completely shambolic.

XF had a fairly normal pattern for most of the show then (just at a lower level) but a big drop at 9.45. That was when Nick Grimshaw let slip he wouldn't be making his decisions until tomorrow, hence confirming that there would be no more results that night. Suspect that made a few switch off.

The breakdown for X Factor is terrible, it only peaked at 7.2m and it dropped off from there.

XF was certainly a shambles last night. Be interesting to see how the figures look tonight and if the show itself can learn from its production mistakes last night.

It's very poor, if it continues at this level it may have dropped below the voice for series average, which would be exceptionally embarassing considering how TV falters post Blind Auditions- It reminds me of how Simon trrated XFUSA, trying desperately to reinvent each series, with each series rating lower than the last, equally series 3 was doing OK until it took a break (similar to the rugby here) and then it collapsed completely for its live shows- They'll be hoping it steadies the declines here before it descends into embarassing figures

Is next weekend not a bank holiday weekend in UK ? This weekend is in Ireland..
I don't think so, pretty sure all our bank holidays are May/August (excluding Xmas, new year and Easter).

However Halloween/Bon fire night parties will no doubt have a similar impact to a bank holiday anyway.

Perhaps. I'm just very conscious that it was the first Saturday show for weeks, it was judges houses which didn't do great last year and it was very long.
You were right! I was very, very wrong! Thought X Factor would have been over 7m. There could be something in people out of the habit big watching on Saturdays. That still is no excuse for that rating. It was promoted and people knew it was on.

Very disappointing for XF. Didn't expect it personally due to the increasing Sunday shows. Tonight should increase but next week will be tough with Halloween and the bank holiday weekend.
I thought X Factor would do better last night for the same reasons. The Sunday shows were doing well. Last night's show was a shambles at the start. It didn't even reach the lofty heights of shambolic. Not surprised some gave up on it.

Perhaps we should see if it was the effect of it not having been on Saturday for the last month. Tonight will be interesting, and if anything it will make any viewer who forgot last night aware it's back on Saturdays for the all important first live show.

That said, I think XF is looking at 7m or so for the rest of the series.

Strictly will do 9-10m every week. I personally think Strictly is drivel but each to their own.

Thats just about as poor as it could be for XF and DW not gaining much has to be a concern. SCD just goes on but is slightly down on last year (9.52m) as well with nearly an identical share,

What was itv thinking at 2hrs 25m that's longer than most films alk about drag it out.
They were thinking: "We've got bugger-all else to put on."

The Fincham 'strategy' of relying more and more on fewer and fewer shows has exploded in their faces this year.

4.34m for Doctor Who according to Gallifrey Base.
Sigh. Hopefully the only way is up, both in terms of episode quality and ratings, in the second half of the series.

Im not too fussed on judges houses myself, never have been, even back in the day. Most boring part for me. However I love tge live shows although whwn ive caught up in the past its always dreary songs. Ill watch it this series lives if im not working or doing anything else.

No me too strictly isnt my thing neither.

Laughably, the xfactor managed to throw everything that makes the show dreadful at the screen together in one night, in one show, in one long excruciatingly long drawn out embarrasingly cringe inducing extravaganza.

The braying audience
Making the contestants BEG for their place on live tv
The false angst from the judges as they "supposedly" deliberated who to choose (like that wasn't already decided before the show went to air).
Olly & Flack, woefully incompetent presenters who had no control over proceedings.
Simon having a teenager (who's only claim to fame is the fact that teenage girls think he's fit) as his "advisor" for the overs (could that have been more patronising for them)
But the biggest "switch-off" moment for me was when Simon dropped Jennifer (one of the best singers in the competition) in favour of sob-story (she's-got-a-catchphrase) Bupsi.

It wasn't even decent car-crash tv.

From Hassan.

Strictly: 9.32m (42.5%)
Doctor Who: 4.39m (20.2%)

Celebrity Chase: 3.12m (14.2%)
The X Factor: 6.67m (31.1%)

Figures include +1 and are tapechecked.
Reasonable for DW, but poor in relative terms for TXF, a long Saturday break due to the rugger has probably hurt it and a poorly received show last night could have seen viewers switch off. I think TXF will probably continue around 7 million for the rest of the series, but next year it's likely some of the stunts that haven't worked will be pulled and possibly the overkill will be cut.
OTOH I do feel really sorry for ITV with the rotten luck they've had with the RUWC. Had England gone all the way to the final, as was predicted at the start of the tournament, then they'd be looking at 10 million for each game and the final pulling in 13 million. While the tournament is still rating quite well, with 4 million a game, it's just a shame their big money earner went wrong and all British interest ended last weekend.
