Though the 20 minute clash will probably mean Strictly doesn't grow to the extent it could do. We've seen it in quite a few breakdowns from recent years where Strictly continually grows then plateaus as soon as The X Factor comes on rather than increase to the end.

But they place it where they want to place it. I don't buy that it's simply because it's the best slot for Strictly, especially when it's best year was when it and The X Factor tended to avoid each other - admittedly not always but mostly.
Yeah, I feel its a little silly on the Beeb's part, 7 is plenty late enough for Strictly to start-OK when they have the massive live shows that go for two and a half hours they might not be able to completely avoid a clash but for the Launch there's no reason to clash (although I guess it gives XF a cross channel lead in while there's bums on seats) I do think this may be motivated to protect the rest of the Beeb's schedule, we've seen when they clash Strictly tends to come off better, but that does leave Family Vacation and Casualty totally exposed so I don't know- I can't wait to see the reception for the revamped XF, its really going to make or break it as a format again so it'll be very interesting to see whether people are still interested or not

There is nothing wrong with a 7pm start time. Following Pointless Celeb which rates well anyway a 7pm start time is just about perfect. Now they have decided to deliberately run into The X Factor for no good reason. Of course they are entitled to do so but it isn't in their best interest and the BBC should be avoiding it imo. Pushing TXF back to 8:35pm is not really a great option for ITV. It will be forced into a late finish with "Fruit" Keyhole being pushed to nearly 10pm. But yes you are correct with the BIB.
These days as well it's so easy to see the XF. It's repeated loads of times, you have +1, catch up and tape it yourself.
I watch both and all you have missed is normally seeing what the judges are wearing and one act.
It may well be retaliation for last year when XF suddenly had a Friday show from nowhere against the SCD launch.
Still, it's keeps this thread on its toes through the Autumn

That was utterly and completely stupid on ITV's behalf as well. What were they thinking with that one?

You can see why BBC are striking back in some ways but in others I feel they should rise above it.

Surprised they've moved Strictly to a 19.15 start time to now clash with TXF or 20-minutes. Last year (for the SCD launch show), both shows went head-to-head on a Sunday night with Strictly winning the night (8.4m vs 7.8m).

In other scheduling clash news. EE faces two hour long Emmerdale's this week and another two hour long episodes next week. That's surely going to knock the wind out of EE's sails with Emmerdale having the head start every time. Not sure why Emmerdale is on for an hour two Tuesday's in a row. Maybe its the missing episodes for the Rugby World Cup (like with Corrie and all these additional Thursday episodes currently).

Never mind Strictly vs X Factor, surely the most interesting thing that Saturday is how low a League One and Two-only Football League Tonight is going to go at 9pm opposite The X Factor and Casualty?

I'd guess so. What won't help EE is that ED is absolutely on fire at the moment. Tonight's episode was brilliant with a good cliffhanger going into the 7:30pm ad break and then the big twist (I'll call it a twist rather than a shock ) that:

Yes it was great tonight. Emmerdale firing on all cylinders isn't good news for EE with more potential clashes looming.

It isn't great news for Corrie either, its wiping the floor with Corrie in quality. I hope the week of Corrie's live episode Emmerdale shows up what a load of trash its been.

And will there be a Coronation Street/Bake Off clash for that live episode?

If there is, Corrie's going to suffer heavily. At the moment Corrie's highest ep this week is 7m. On Wednesday's its weaker. Its over 3m short of Bake-Off.

They'd be very silly to try it I think, it'd dent Bake Off a little, but scheduling against what is arguably the biggest tv show of the moment, is asking for trouble, I could forsee a Circa 5m rating for Corrie which would be nothing short of a disaster tbh

All this talk of the Strictly and X Factor clash on that particular upcoming Saturday, is just silly.

The BBC can schedule their programmes where they like, as can ITV. However one glaring omission from that provisional ITV schedule is the early evening news bulletin. Surely if ITV do not want to have an orchestrated clash, they should show their news update, which would then shuffle all the programmes around 10 to 15 minutes later. Of course, the BBC could already suspect this and have placed Strictly where there would be minimal overlap.

However that would be a logical assumption.

If The X Factor cant cope with a small clash like that, then perhaps the battle for the Saturday ratings should be over for ITV.

I do love the Daily Fail. They had a go at the BBC for wasting money and then the following day ran a story on the BBC saving money by going to another reliable company for the weather data - but even that was wrong !

What happens if ITV launch Jekyll and Hyde on a Saturday at 8.30pm in competition with Doctor Who. Should the BBC shuffle the doctor out of the way ?

I wouldn't even predict 5m, probably lower, although it would be well deserved. An abysmal rating could be the wake-up call ITV need to get rid of their terrible EP.

I never thought we'd see the day a baking show regularly beats the longest running soap.

Thanks lewi and CHrisM

I would guess that that reduced rating for NT is a result of more competition, than the barren landscape of last week.

Soap Ratings:

Clash backfires slightly on ITV as ED is dented. Disappointing rating for ED there. Good +1 audience though.

Quite a high BBC Three rating too for Eastenders, is that the largest one in a long time (excluding the 30th blip)

Isn't there another clash coming up on Thursday too ?

I'm fed up with the BBC's treatment of Traffic Cops they took it off after two episodes to show a repeat of the housing inforcers now it's being shunted to 10.35 pm. They often show the series/episodes in parts then it disappears. It does ok in the ratings usually over 3 million which is considered quite good for the two main channels these days.

Another Emmerdale/Eastenders clash it's getting a joke now ?
And another Corrie episode what's with these extra episodes are they trying to sneak in another episode permanently ?

I wish they would stop these clashes no one wins. Yes Emmerdale usually comes out on top but the show is always down overall. Surely the advertisers who ITV make there money from can't be happy ? As well as the viewers of course.

It's not doing Eastenders any favours at all it'a already struggling I'm afraid to say way down against Corrie unfortunately
