In London BBC1 ran a trailer just before 7 p.m. saying there was a programme about canals at 7.30 p.m. instead of EE which might have influenced some viewers.

Emmerdale actually lost share for the 7.30pm slot so whilst the numbers went up the share went down to 28.1% down from 30.0%.

Ratings and stats are weird

That's sorted then
Maybe it would make ITV think twice in future. Thing is ITV Tuesday is weak so why dont they use Emmerdale and Corrie there?

Kim Shillinglaw announced some new programmes for BBC2 at the Edinburgh TV Festival. They include a fantasy drama and a drama on the making of Dad's Army. Shane Richie is in the Dad's Army drama. It's being made in Northern Ireland so he will probably make it alongside his EastEnders spin off drama.

It started at 8pm last night, so some viewers were switching on in the run up to 8pm.

Just looking at SCD line-up. Its incredibly BBC employee heavy this year. And I think when you look back at last year the line-up was definitely stronger.

Still won't affect the ratings though - like IAC.

Before it was announced reports said this year's Strictly line up was very BBC heartland. They weren't wrong.

They say line-ups aren't important for Strictly but I think that they are for initial interest. They help bring in the casual audience that aren't regular Strictly watchers.

Precisely - and explains why ITV are running scared.

What viewers want to see is on the first live show, someone do a " Pendelton" as it's known and freeze, or a "Sargent" and pull the rubbish bags out.

Then they get pulled in to the dancing.

We have Millions of Peter Andre fans, millions of Radio2 fans, millions of One show fans, sports fans, Sky sports fans, Breakfast/ Kirkwood fans, ( she has her own thread here). Irish fans, Cook fans, Proms fans, Pop group Wanted fans, Ten million Call the midwife fans, and eight million Eastenders fans., and Corrie fans. and Jamelia and 500k from Loose women.

It takes two ensures that 7 days a week SCD has a show.

So we should be looking at 20m+ for SCD 1st show then. The X Factor has no chance.

No, what show gets that?

Fans of Corrie, Enders and CTM may come from the same pot, the point is there is a massive spread of interest, and potential plugging , from Breakfast How did it go Carol? To Radio2, to TOS, Peter Andre fans are loyal, if not hysterical.

Now XF has Radio1 to plug it's show through Grimshaw, but that's it.

So Channel 4 has joined ITV in the 'talking sense' category: http://www.theguardian.com/media/201...hannel-4s-hunt

Let's hope the BBC will listen. I've always much preferred C4 and ITV.

If a BBC programme fails the people on it are out of a job. If you don't believe me ask people that worked in the area where The Paradise was filmed.

ITV's problems are partly to do with putting so many eggs in one basket. Channel 4 were I'm trouble for years when they stopped Big Brother. Relied on it and didn't always have other things in place to deliver ratings.

It's also idiocy to think that there aren't consequences at the BBC if programmes fail.

Channel 5 have moved The Hotel Inspector from 9pm on Thursday's to 10pm on Tuesday's. Didn't the last series rate pretty well? Seems strange to move it to a worse slot.

Well Jay Hunt and Peter Fincham know exactly how the BBC works as they have both run the show there.

Does anybody know the last thing shown on TV to get 20m viewers?

The World Cup match between England and Uruguay last year peaked with 20m but in terms of average the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2012 Olympics averaged around 22-23m (overnights).
