Whether you like Simon or not it has to be said that he brings a lot to a panel. Also when he was there he did do some decision making from the studio floor. The 2010 panel worked and that year it was a perfect storm of panel, contestants and arctic weather boosting ratings. I think the changes in 2011 had a lot to do with the dip in ratings.

Don't forget Celebrity Big Brother which will be on Channel 5 in the 9pm slot.

Should be very competitive and I think Strictly producers might be slightly concerned at the level of competition, although that's what you get on a Friday night I suppose.

I used to like Simon, but since (around 2011)? I think his ego became too big, and he started losing it. He made some strange decisions regarding XF in the US and UK since then.

I also find this 'love affair' between him and Cheryl quite sickly and desperate.

I'd like the pre2011 Cowell to come back.

Everyone says the 2010 panel was perfect, but there used to be alot of criticism of Dani for being bland and boring, and even criticised for being on the panel in the first place, as Cheryl was the sweetheart and used to get alot louder (and I think fake) cheers.

I don't think CBB will be much of a threat to anything.

With around 2.5m viewers it will be getting the same sort of ratings as Extra Slice and Gogglebox.

Gogglebox may get recorded or +1 with the SCD one off in the Friday slot.

It isn't January. If it was then yes it'd be a threat but it's certainly no threat in the summer

The 2009 series of Strictly was a mess. Strictly nearly died on Jay Hunts watch. The combined performance/results show didn't work. It also meant no Strictly results show on Sunday. The X Factor put theirs on the night and X Factor exploded in 2009. That was the year the show really grew. It did lead to BBC1 revamping Strictly for the 2010 series and it paid off. Strictly 2009 was like X Factor 2011. But whereas Strictly spotted problems and rectified them the following year, X Factor carried on so they dipped further.


That arctic snow did wonders for ratings in Autumn 2010. It was like the 70s with a literally captive audience.

I would agree with that, he did start losing it and his ego git to big, I think year by year more notice how manipulated everything he does is.

CBB launched with just 2.2m on Thursday (inc +1), and will be lucky to have got 1.6m (inc +1) last night. Barring an incredible controversy, it won't be troubling 2m again this series.

That's pretty poor rating for CBB. But watching it last night, Emma Willis kept teasing us with this Davro V Dickinson battle saying it was not to be missed. That truth was it was a complete flop.

This series feels like its going to be underwhelming.

Watching the feed I feel the opposite. I think it will be a great series but a lot of people will miss it. The feed last night crapped all over the entire 9 week regular run

I see a lot of potential in these housemates as long as the production side of things doesn't mess things up.

Will CBB still be going when the strictly live shows start?

Pretty sure if it was, they would move CBB later. They tend to do that a lot except with the summer series just gone where BB went up against BGT (oddly enough).

Live Feed on the main channel got a decent 436k

Weirdly enough the main show is the meh rating there.

BBQ Champ served up an audience of 1.25m (6.7%) at 9pm.

That has to be one of ITV's biggest flops ever. That an The Delivery Man have been complete flops, and yet both stayed in the schedule. Fincham is obviously happy to keep letting the shares slide.

Beaten by all other channels at 9pm.

when you look at it as whole the ratings don't feel as bad, the main should have got about 1.9 though

BBQ champ is flopping so hard it hurts

BBQ champ is now an embarrassment to ITV.

It's a legacy from the Richard Desmond era, where he added the extra CBB series to fill the Daily Star with stories about the show. Last night's ratings might also suggest the celeb version of the show, like the general public one, this is running out of ideas as well by using a twist. Channel 5 really need to take a look at both versions of BB and maybe cut the general public one to six weeks and end the summer CBB.
