I definitely think we will see the CBB ratings rise tomorrow night if not tonight. This is a show that has been damaged in the ratings by the bank holiday weekend even more than most, but because it is a great series so far, it should pick up viewers.
I respectfully disagree with Neil_VW's comment that "CBB won't trouble 2m again this Summer". I firmly believe that we will see a significant boost this week and by the weekend CBB will be nearer 2m than 1m.

ITV now looks like some miner channel in the 200s on Sky these days, Apart from the news they have to show.

That's a very good point. The transition from the audition shows to the live studio shows needs to be as short as possible this year. Don't drive away the remaining audience with two-hour borefests of clips of contestants having singing training.

Allo Allo had a far greater run then six at a time, also My Family with a team of script writers and Bread was longer then six at a time. Only Fools and horses had runs longer then six.

Great point, who will sit out Two whole hours if XF on Sunday's. If SCD results are say on at 7 pm, then SCD will win that clash. People may , record, or catch up, or not bother.
I think bar a final , Two hours us far too much to stomach in one go, it needs to be bite sized. The logical thing would have been start XF post the RWC Saturday matches.
This is a very serious situation for ITV now, extremely grave, the crown jewel, failing, it's published its advance schedule to Christmas, it can't afford any clash with SCD.
(1) ITV should wave a white flag, and move any soap clashes, both the exec producers of Emmerdale and Eastenders said they are against it, last week.
(2) Come to an agreement re SCD and XF, I do not think the BBC will want to run XF into the ground, they would have a smile on their faces now, they may be cheeky and put SCD on at 7.30 when XF is off Saturday's, ( I would), put Doctor Who on at 6.45.
(3) ITV re boxed in, Friday's failed last year, Saturday's RWC, Sunday's two hours with a SCD clash is suicidal. Maybe have a two parter 7 pm to 8 pm, 45 min gap ( when BBC1 can show SCD Results, ) back 8.45 to 9.30, edit it a bit, and then Downton at 9.30.

Don't discount Daniel O'Donnell either. He's dull as dishwater and his singing is no good either but grannies in Ireland adore him and I think that somewhat translates to parts of the UK as well. He could be a big draw for the older audience.

To be fair on XF there has been numerous singers/groups that have done very well out of it - singles and albums and popular for several years. Some have faded away, others although not releasing music and/or always in the limelight seem to be doing fine with other work - e.g. musical theatre, tv presenting etc...
So if you look back at (pop) music in the UK that scenario above is no different to what it's been like over the last few decades - some bands/singers seem to never go away and are popular for many, many years - plenty others have a few years success and that's them, others have been a "flash in the pan" and quickly disappear. The XF is no different to any of that. If the public (no matter the age) aren't buying the singles/albums then the record label has to let them go - they either get a new label or go and do something else. It's always been that way.

Fincham and Crozier thinking that The X Factor clashing with Strictly was the biggest problem. X Factor was the problem.

I really hope you're right. It's a great series so far so it should be doing better, but I don't think it will go over 1.5m throughout the run, maybe I'm being pessimistic. Or maybe as we go into the school term start, it will pick up. Lets hope.
They need to promote this series whilst it's on air to try and get as much launch audience as possible.

Probably has something to do with the younger demos who watch this show and download music more than any other demo.

I was thinking more back in the 60s - the first two series of Dad's Army only ran to six episodes each although series three ran to 14 and series four to 13, no mean achievement for only two writers.
I believe Steptoe and Till Death were six episodes in each series.

This. One of my Mums friends who is in her 70's loves him. So, that's one extra viewer right away.

I posted this a few days back, viewers who are loyal to Eastenders, Corrie, Call the Midwife, Radio2, BBC Breakfast and R2 again for Carol ( who has her own thread here), fans if The Wanted, and from Ireland where there going to put coaches on from Ireland to NI so people can vote. Sports, Boxing, Athletics , Sky Sports, Peter Andre fans, the fans if the professional Dancers, SCD has a ready made audience, plus the hundred or so from Loose Women.

I think starting Doctor Who at exactly the same time as Factor might be okay for Who this autumn. Enough for it to get its 4.5m overnights, anyway. I don't know if it'll be possible with 15/14/13 etc Strictly contestants in the first few weeks, though.

ITV had a strong Sunday schedule from 8pm after the soaps back then. They didn't miss the soap hour when they were strong. They dominated in Winter and I don't think any of us expected Call The Midwife and Sherlock to end ITV's dominant schedule so spectacularly.
As low as DOI went it gave ITV some viewers on Sunday in Winter. Ditching without a ready made replacement explains why The X Factor is still on. X Factor isn't the big show it was. It's easier to keep it going than replace it.
ITV didn't lose Sunday nights when they lost the soaps. They lost Winter Sundays when Call The Midwife arrived and they lose some Autumn Sundays with a weaker X Factor.
With regard to Fudd's post about Hughie Green, Op Knocks ran for 17 series on ITV and then 4 on BBC One. He is right, it was only dropped because of Hughie Green's political comments and was still getting 18 million for its last series.
Green became almost invisible after he was sacked and there was an unofficial blacklisting of him. His only work after Op Knocks was a dire show on Radio 2 in 1987 where he played forties records for his own amusement.
