As a huge XF fan,those ratings are completely shocking. Last year's series remained steady enough with 8/9m and dropping with the Strictly clash to the 7's. While we're already on 5.9m with no clash on episode 2??? I really hope it's just the bank holiday effect and next weeks episodes will be back up to 8m but I'm doubtful.

I think the eviction shows should top 1.5m, because there is still a public interest in the show. The problem is that the public have looked at the line-up and thought "no, these people aren't famous enough" but if they actually watch the show they'll see that the famousness of the celebrities doesn't matter; this series is still very entertaining.
As for BOTS, that needs to be axed as far as I'm concerned. Far too many gimmicky segments, guests as dull as dishwater, and cringe inducing attempts at manufacturing controversy.
Channel 5 either need to kill off BOTS completely and replace it with another hour of Live Feed (which I guarantee you will rate better) or completely revamp it, replacing Rylan with a different, big-money, big-impact host (Russell Brand or Dermot O'Leary ideally), introducing a more interesting panel with more insightful views (a couple of regular panellists and a couple of guests), more exclusive footage, more audience participation (reading out texts and tweets and taking calls from fans) and a more slick, refined feel to the whole thing.
TXF is in serious decline now and when the RUWC comes I can see it falling as low as 5 million. I think it's time ITV got an alternative as they're too dependent on the same aged shows.

How about a revival of an old game show in the Family Fortunes slot? Blankety Blank or Bullseye or something like that? If it's done well it could work.

I've been saying this for a while. The whole fanzine show thing proves nothing and is a legacy of the Channel 4 era that isn't needed like through the night coverage. BB, for all I'm not a fan but will say something constructive, needs the revamp you're suggesting.

I thought it would be interesting to compare American Idol's and The X Factor's relative increases and declines, and there are a lot of parallels.

ITV 'urgently' need to speak to the BBC to avoid SCD clash, they must compromise or see XF wiped out.

I joked earlier in a previous post about that, Call for Ant and Dec but their committed to IACGMOOH, even if free I can see their agent saying, do not touch it, do not go down with a sinking ship. It will tarnish their names. I personally do not think its a presentation problem, if its Dermot Dad Dancing or Caroline doing a Tango to match Simon's different Tango, The issues are deep rooted, in the make up of the show, being about Judges, not about the talent, being bloated, being a pantomime, having scripted answers, the 'feeling' its fixed/ rigged. The use of Autotune, etc. Simon is too old to connect with the target audience.

The thing is though, A&D are the real deal, brilliant presenters and performers. Dermot was a great host but doesn't come close to what A&D have. And Caroline and Olly...well the less said the better. If in some crazy world it did happen, A&D wouldn't do it unless the show was tip top. Them doing it would result in a fairly different show overall I'd have thought. But I guess I've always thought it might look quite weird with their Pop Idol past and doing BGT.

There no Dermot or A&D but To be fair to Olly and Caroline at the moment they havent really had a proper opportunity to present. That will happen properly at the judges houses stage. But in my opinion I think it would be better with one presenter rather than 2

Yes.
But as we both have said, A&D will not do it.
If they or their Agent see the ratings going off a cliff like this, they wouldn't touch it with a barge poll even if SC personally asked. They would be associated with another flop like Red or Back,. As posted before in November they are committed to IACGMOOH, That rules them out, and it would be overkill.

Its not the presenters, Simon may like to blame Dermot, getting Dermot to jump before he was axed, (The Sun printed his axe and he jumped), Its the focus on judges, not talent, you read the forums they say only one song in 12/15 mins etc. Its Simon cant engage with the teenage target market. Less 'crying' less bickering, more music.
Whilst TVUK has a gimmick of the chairs, that's it, No bad acts kept in to be joke fodder, no Jedward, TVUK is about the voice, the coaches come second. XF has a lot to learn from it.
