The Big Chill - 9/10

Have to say I've watched this film a hundred times, but it's been a while. I own it and above my bed is the film poster - framed and filling about half my wall!

This film's a fantastic example of ensemble acting at it's best, the actors are just terrific together. It's a simple story of a group of friends from the 60's who get together at the funeral of one of the group later in the 80's. It's about the loss, the friendship, the past, the future, the now. It's one of those films you have to watch multiple times to see and hear little things you missed first time around.

Always worth watching, for me it's like re-visiting an old friend.

Starring Glenn Close, Kevin Kline, William Hurt, Jobeth Williams, Jeff Goldblum, Tom Berenger, Mary Kay Place, Meg Tilly.

Oh and, of course, Kevin Costner as the famously cut-out corpse - all you see is the arms, wrists, etc. He was rewarded with Field of Dreams, not a bad trade-off

Reap the Wild Wind [1942]. Director: Cecil B. DeMille

7/10

John Wayne & Ray Milland compete for the affections of Paulette Goddard in this tale of 19th century Florida ship wreckers.

*******
Rage [2014]. Director: Paco Cabezas

5/10

Another dumb Nicholas Cage action movie.

*******
Arrowhead [1953]. Director: Charles Marquis Warren

7/10

Western action with Charlton Heston as an Indian-hating scout and Jack Palance putting on the red make-up as Hollywood wouldn't cast real Native Americans in lead roles.

*******
Dollman [1991]. Director: Albert Pyun

5/10

Cheep and cheerful nonsense from Full Moon pictures with Tim Thomerson as the tough alien cop who is a wee bit hampered when he crashes on Earth as he's only 13 inches tall.

*******
Siege at Red River [1954]. Director: Rudolph Maté

6/10

Confederates trying to smuggle a Gatling gun to the South run into trouble with mercenaries and Indians. The big fight at the end was lifted from the 1944 movie Buffalo Bill. Mexican Rico Alaniz plays the main Native American in this one.

*******
Broken Arrow [1950]. Director: Delmer Daves

7/10

James Stewart plays real-life scout Tom Jeffords, trying to broker a peace deal between the US Government and the Apaches. Although one of the first movies to present a positive image of Native Americans they still had to cast Brooklyn-born Jewish actor Jeff Chandler as Cochise.

The American - Tries to be a meditative Euro thriller but falls flat. I think George Clooney was miscast in the lead role. Nice Italian backdrop though.

You've been well occupied, then.

The Lady In The Van
Grandma

Both comedy films. One with Maggie Smith and the other with Lily Tomlin. Sensational films. Both performances were better than any of the women were nominated for best actress at the oscars.

Let Me In. Was really confused during the entire film as I couldn't decide whether I'd seen this before or not. Turns out I'd seen the Nordic Let the Right One In. 7.25/10

Face of a Fugitive [1959]. Director: Paul Wendkos

7/10

Western with Fred MacMurray helping a young sheriff deal with a murderous gang of ranchers before a set of wanted posters arrive revealing MacMurray is a fugitive wanted for murder. James Coburn has an early role as one of the villains.

The Exorcist.

It might be an unpopular opinion, but I don't think I've ever seen a more overrated horror movie. The pacing was weird and it just wasn't scary. I laughed more than anything.

Arrival - saw this last night at Odeons screen unseen, great film. It's a more thoughtful 'Contact' type of film dealing with Alien visitors to earth, it felt like a Christopher Nolan film.

To the Devil a Daughter (1976)

It was creepy when I first saw it, and it's still creepy. Christopher Lee is not playing a vampire, but he is playing a very strange man.
