One of my all time top ten favourites. Recorded it, bought it on DVD, bought it again on Bluray. Which reminds me I have another brilliant oldie lined up to watch this weekend. Leon another 10/10.

The original Nordic one was brilliant not so much the remake.

Lucky to have caught Hunt For the Wilder People, small New Zealand film with Sam Neil. Lucky to have heard the review by Kermode and read other good reviews, caught it but many wouldn't have because it was only shown in limited screens and our cinema only had it for a week.

I eventually caught up with The Big Short, brilliant performance by Steve Carell.

X-Men Apocalypse was a big disappointment.

Star Trek Beyond not as bad as some said it was but nowhere near the previous ones.

Favourite films I have watched this year so far and yes some were released late last year but I missed at the cinema and had to wait for the DVD/Streaming release.

Hunt For the Wilder People Catch it when released on DVD/download/streaming

The Martian Funny and engaging.

Everest up there with Rush as a film based on true events.

Creed Thought Stallone should have won the Oscar over Mark Rylance.

Deadpool Brilliantly funny

10 Cloverfield Lane Creepy but well written and directed.

Brooklyn Great performance by Saoirse Ronan and I like Nick Hornby anyway.

Imperium - fairly disappointing. Radcliffe is reasonably good as the mild FBI agent going undercover to infiltrate neo-nazi's, but the story kind of meanders. Sometimes characters are introduced and then seem to fall by the wayside, and it fizzles out at the end.

Evil dead - Meh. I must be going off horrors. I have watched loads over the last week and I haven't enjoyed one.

Powder room - Funny, silly, honest and quite sad. Brilliant performance from Sheridan Smith.

The Impossible

Strong performances save the day in earnest tsunami drama that's all but swept away in a tidal wave of corn. 5.5/10

The Legend of Tarzan

Me Tarzan. You bored. 5/10

Crimson Peak

Gothic indulgence that soon outstays its welcome. 4/10

I didn't think it was great and it wasn't particularly scary

Arrival. Seen it today and it's amazing! I REALLY enjoyed it and it's got a bit of a twist that becomes obvious towards the end.

Definitely worth a watch!

A guy who has a vision of his just deceased mother telling him to go to Bucharest does just that and soon finds love, falls out with the local gang boss, and shares a hostel room with Ron Weasley and the laddish one from Inbetweeners. Weirdly compelling.

Stand out film this year for me.

Just finished Double Endemity (1944) recorded before I went on holiday. Hadn't seen it for years Fabulous! Superb performances and a cracking script. i wish TV would show more films from this era 10/10

I normally love anything by Tim Burton and this didn't disappoint 10/10

A Street Cat called Bob. Dreadful don't bother to go and see it. I wasn't keen to start with but went with a friend who thought it would be good. It wasn't. It was boring and the main actor didn't appear to be able to act. I admit it wasn't my type of film but sometimes I have been pleasantly surprised - not with this one.

I saw Dr Strange before this - now that is worth seeing.

X Men Apocalypse 5/10

Not the best instalment in the series.

Payback

The Gibson edit, which is splashier but perhaps more entertaining than its director's edit. Best enjoyed by setting aside the whole Point Blank issue, this is what a Tarantino film might look like without all the nodding and winking. A gleefully sleazy guilty pleasure. 8/10

Saboteur

Early Hitchcock man-on-the-run thriller. Maybe not as smoothly configured as others but still much to enjoy. Memorable villains and some ambitious subterfuge draw you in. 7/10

Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983): unusually dark and little-known Disney film about a sinister carnival and its mysterious owner visiting an old-time American rural town and trying to take its inhabitants over: 8/10.

Teen Witch - Great 80s cult teen film. Really good.

Watched Minions last night for the first time, really enjoyed it!

Halloween Resurrection

Much better sequels than what the awful sequels that previously happened. They were that bad that they even ignored the events and did a fresh take on what happened after Halloween 2. They were fun, a bit silly and edge of your seat entertainment.

Robert Downey Jr. as a shady defence lawyer who finds himself defending his estranged father (the judge of the title) on a murder charge. Robert Duvall is superb in the title role and bagged an Oscar nomination.

Very much a filmed play with long dialogue scenes between the principals. Vivien Leigh, Kim Hunter and Karl Malden all bagged Oscar wins but Marlon Brando missed out to Humphrey Bogart (for The African Queen).
