Supremacy [2014]. Director: Deon Taylor

6/10

2 white supremacists on the run for killing a cop take refuge in a nearby house where a black family live. Based on a real case of Robert Walter Scully, who has been on death row since 1997 (fortunately for him he is in California).

As someone who saw the original at the cinema I'm supposed to hate this, when in fact I actually think it's the better film.

Finally got round to watching Inside Out on Sunday. Really enjoyed it.

Another week looks like going by without me having an opportunity to go and see Arrival and Dr Strange before it leaves the cinema. Planned going tonight but last minute babysitting duties and tomorrow long trip to Sheffield.

I never rated the original. I'm not expecting much from the remake but maybe I'll be surprised.

I always found the original Ghostbusters vastly over-rated. I remember when it was first shown at the cinema, back in 1984. Most of my friends back then loved it, though I wasn't keen on it even then and I never understood why it was so popular. It seems to be one of those films where everyone is expected to like it and people look at you in horror if you say that you don't.

I watched the remake the other day and, even though it has been universally panned by critics and film fans alike, I actually rather enjoyed it. I also thought that it was better than the original in almost every way and the new feminist angle was a novel touch too. I doubt that I would feel the same way if I tried to watch the original again now. Sometimes, remakes can actually surpass the original, as in this case.

re: Ghostbusters. Remember, everything is made of gold in magical Fanboynostalialand.

Dark Water

Walter Salles' version lacks the elegant simplicity of Hideo Nakata's, and loses some of its creepiness. But it compensates with strong performances, a clammy, rain-soaked setting, and heightening the drama of a single mother under duress. It may soften its ending, but it's put in the effort to earn it and make it work. One for the 'better than you think' drawer. 7/10

Disney Yuletide offering. An early outing for Jessica Biel who went onto much better things. Star Jonathan Taylor Thomas fared less well and made his career on TV.

Last night, I watched Carry On At Your Convenience on DVD...again. It has never been one of my favourite Carry Ons, but I have to say that I quite enjoyed it again. It is still funnier than the old black and white Carry Ons, in my humble opinion, but I think it gets less funnier once the coach trip to Brighton comes into the film. It seems to lose ground at that point. Anyway, I still think it does have a few funny scenes, but there are much better films in the series and much worse too. Maybe I have just seen it too many times now...

Anyway, my score for the film is 6/10.

Doctor Strange (2016): 3/5

Not quite what I expected from a Marvel film - far more mystical and philosophical than I thought it would be. For the beginning of the film I thought it was more of a human drama than anything, though I later thought some of the story is pretty similar to a kung fu movie, also the training sequences and philosophy
Strange's character is an arrogant asshat and not really likeable.
Its mostly in the 2nd act it becomes more fantastical but even then it doesnt seem to be about "physical" feats (strength or power) etc... :?
